I live in Mecklenburg County and noticed every year, since 2001, when I get my vehicle personal property tax bill they always add a charge of $30 for "Charlotte Vehicle Fee". My car is older (and in really good condition) so the actual tax is $24.78. With the $30 fee included I paid $54.78. So my taxes are lower than the "Charlotte Vehicle Fee".
Does anyone know what a "Charlotte Vehicle Fee" is?
So let me understand this: if you register your cars for the first time then is that the ONLY time you pay? Or do you have to renew your license plates every year AND pay the vehicle taxes? I'm hearing that you pay vehicle taxes every year but not license plate renewal?
I don't think all counties have the "vehicle fee". This may have changed but when I lived in Guilford county in the 1990s and drove a 1970s car, there was only the property tax to pay, and boy was it tiny on such an old car!
I'm kind of in mkforu's situation now. My car is 9 years old and the tax is smaller than the vehicle fee.
Driving an older vehicle and keeping it in good condition, pays for itself in many ways. Love having no monthly payments!
