My wife and I are on the last day of our househunting trip. We are moving from Oregon and will be in temporary housing while we try to figure out where we will buy. We like the look and feel of Birkdale, but why are Hopewell High School's state report card numbers so poor? As an example- 41% of the geometry students are at or above their grade level- this is markedly lower than the district scores, not to mention the acts of crime/violence are 300% higher (3% vs 1%) than the district. Can someone either tell me there's a deeper story here, or confirm that despite Birkdale's great looking neighborhoods, the high school has serious problems? Here's a link to the report card.

Thanks for your help, as usual.

This is why we decided to move to Lincoln County. I liked Huntersville very much but was not impressed with the school report card. We thought Pumpkin Center School and North Lincoln Middle and High Schools offered more of what we wanted for our kids education. Maybe someday there will be some nicer shops where we are moving but for now I really went with the schools for the kids.

I really think the biggest problem at Hopewell is just the huge volume of students who attend there, about 2800. They even have something like 30 trailers out back for overflow classrooms. In my opinion, when schools get this large there are bound to be problems.

Here's a link you might find interesting to see what students and teachers there say about their school:
