hello I need help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am a single mom of one and will be relocating to the charlotte area. my job will be located in the 28262 zip code. it's actually located on david taylor drive. i would like to live close to my job but from what i have read this zip is not a good area. what area would be good for me to move to? it's just me and my son, so i need something that's in a good area (low crime, good school, and fairly short commute). i figure my travel time can't exceed 20 to 25 minutes . does anyone have any suggestions???? please help!!! Thanks!

Actually, I believe that is 28216? The area is a popular one to work in and not unsafe. Look to live north and northeast and you will be just fine - anywhere near Mallard Creek Rd, Prosperity Church Rd - the further north you go the more I like it
David Taylor Dr is off of Mallard Creek Church Rd West and is in the 28262 ZIP code in University City. Highland Creek area is about 15 minutes away...Mallard Creek area would be my next suggestion. It is best to stay WEST of I-85 and NORTH of Harris Blvd.
Thanks everyone for the help. I actually think I am going to rent first before buying. I would like to get to know the area. I will keep you posted on my progress.
I'm researching the same thing myself. here's a link to the charlotte police crime map. http://maps.cmpdweb.org/cmpdnet/map.aspx (broken link) It's painfully slow to use, and you have to zoom in pretty close before any data appears. David Taylor dr. seems to be as safe as it gets. good luck!
@ the 7 oh 4 : thanks for the reply to my post of a few weeks ago
I actually work on David Taylor Drive and I live just north of downtown Charlotte. It takes me 20 minutes to get to work because I am traveling the opposite way of traffic.
28262 and the University area have a lot of shopping options and chain restaurants, but I would not want to live in this area because this suburban development does not appeal to me. There has been a lot of property crime but that is rising all over the city, so I don't think this area is particularly unsafe. If you live north of this area your commute will be worse as you will be going with all the traffic toward downtown. So there are a lot of factors to consider but I think your decision to rent first is a good one. Then you can have a realtor show you around and give you information about different areas.
