I remember one of Winchesters family members confirming that the gun belonged to Winchester. Which to me totally destroys the "witnesses" viewpoints since many witnesses said the police planted the gun. So anyone that said that police planted the gun - their testimony is completely unreliable and biased.

Lets see here. You know the officer in this case? And your first posts on this thread you say you doubt CMPD's version of events, but now you don't think the officer is guilty?? Doesn't make sense.

Either you know this officer and hold some sort of grudge (why else would you start a thread like this?) I do not think anyone who "is close" to this situation would or should post about it on the internet.

...Or you are just causing waves.

Lastly, it is funny how you point out that since most people so far tend to have supported CMPD's version of events, that they must be white. Are you overlooking the fact that the witnesses who are screaming it is racist or police misconduct are black? So what makes one side right and one side wrong?

My black friends have told me that until you know what it is like to be subjected to racial profiling, you can't understand why black folks often have fear or animosity towards law enforcement.

For example, one of my friends told me this story. My friend drives an Escalade, wh/ sports on its license plate his retired air force officer's status. Let's say the plate reads: LTC (rtd) Paul. One afternoon his son was home from CHI, and drove the Escalade and w/in five miles of his parent's house, was pulled over by cops, who ordered him out and slammed him up against the SUV. When it all came down, the cop had assumed the young man was driving a stolen car.

The whole family was upset by this incident, needless to say. Letters were written and a formal apology was finally offered from the Chief of Police.

This incident helped me understand why black folks might tend to distrust law enforcement.

Uhhh ok...do we only have white police officers here in the USA? Can only a white police officer be capable of profiling? I am sure you only got one side of that story too. Is it not possible that there was a white Cadillac stolen in that area and the vehicle he was driving matched the description?

When I was about 13, me and my mom were driving through Cornelius and were stopped by a police officer (a black police officer). He told my mother she had made an illegal left turn from some side street that we had not even driven on. Though my mother was polite and promised she did not do anything wrong, she got a roadside lecture regardless. Were we stopped because we were white? I do not think so. He was mistaken. Life goes on...

Where did I write that I doubt CMPD's version of events? Reading is fundamental. I don't have anything bad to say about David Jester. I'm just curious about what people who are not involved with the situation and don't know the Jesters think. Just about everyone I know in Charlotte knows the Jesters and that probably colors their opinion.

You're right in that many black police officers are the worst offenders when it comes to profiling black people. Some black police officers act like they have something to prove.

Actually, this incident happened in KS and yes, I only saw white officers there in Johnson County, where the population was about 96 % white, according to the last census I saw.

I am just relaying what I have been told. It made sense to me that a young black man might feel really intimidated by the thought that he could be racially profiled and apprehended just b/c a thug had committed a crime and the general description was - black male b/n 5'10 and 6', 160-180 lbs. I think that would make me uptight, especially if I were in a very small minority.

I have read this whole thread with interest. From the OP, who I thought was questioning the police version, to the others who tend to believe the police. I just don't understand the OP's purpose in starting this thread. He (or she) sure made it sound like a bad shooting. Does the belief that C-D is mostly white really matter? There have been plenty of self-identified black posters on the Charlotte board asking for help on various topics and they have gotten helped, just as anyone would. Does the OP think we, the C-D readers, are all prejudiced in some way? I'm just confused by his purposes!

Well, I just read over the thread again, too, and I think it is just a matter of wondering what went on . . . but who knows. Sometimes I am kinda dense, SouthernBelle!!!!
