Hi All -- I was just wondering if anyone who's been a victim of crime here in Charlotte has seen the perps brought to justice? I had my purse snatched on Thursday and it seems like the kind of thing that happens so often (in Charlotte and everywhere else)...the police officers seemed committed to following all leads to find the guy, but I know they're so busy with bigger crimes. Has anyone on this forum had the cops solve their crime case? I guess I'm looking for just one case of "justice" being served -- thought it might make me feel better.

I have friends in Dilworth whose house was broken into a month or so ago. The burglars took the usual stuff: cameras, computers, TV's, etc. A couple of days later the police called to say they had found their stuff in a house under construction. They had their license # engraved on their possessions and so were easy to locate.

BARB - I have always heard one should engrave something on electronics, but I have never known 1. how to do that and 2. what to use as "the number." That is a great idea - license #. Maybe one can get some kind of jeweler's engraving tool to engrave the numbers . . .

In any case, I am so glad to hear of someone who actually got belongings back!!!!

RENTINGCOUPLE: I am so so sorry to hear that this happened to you. Makes me sick to think about it. I hope they will find the thug who did it.

Ani, do you have a neighborhood association? Ours was able to borrow an engraving tool from CMPD and subsequently passed it around the neighborhood. This was a few years ago, however, and I'm not sure if they still do it or not.

No, Barb, we don't have a formal association. We just have a bunch of hyper vigilant work-at-home types like me who patrol, Hee Hee.

I am gonna ask around about this. For all I know, CMPD may have some resources. It is a great idea . . .

That's a good one.

No. When my car was stolen they had phone #'s that the little jerks had called on my cell phone, the walkman that they'd left behind in my car, and loads of finger prints.

They did, however, hold my car hostage for an extra two days because "they had to process it" and they stuck me with the storage bill of like $100 a day - so.....that was nice.

eta: So sorry this happened to you. Being a victim of any crime really shakes your sense of security.

And you get to pay for towing, too!http://bestsmileys.com/cheering/1.gif (broken link)

Wasn't there a story in the Observer about a year ago about a man whose car had been recovered by police but they'd never notified him? He was stuck with a storage bill in the thousands.
