I know I didn't add anything to the conversation, but just thought I'd express that.
Haha. Thanks for the expression! Stop in if you haven't recently. Our front retail has gone thru drastic changes. We have a 3 full demo rooms including a true home theater, speaker walls, etc. Fun stuff!
The University Wal-Mart will be closing, such an old, out of date store, will be glad it will be gone, but what will replace it???
The shell is up on 29 (southbound) near IKEA for the new Wal-Mart Superstore, I think it's ahead of the Concord Wal-Mart (in construction). I feel this store will take the clientele from the University store, and the Concord Wal-Mart will take the clintele from the Concord Wal-Mart (Highland Creek, Skybrook, Mallard Creek areas).
Mabye they're at the same pace. It was Christmas time when I saw the one on 29. They may have a huge grand opening for the both stores, same day.....scary!!!! Wouldn't want to be near either of them on that day. Anywhere, here are a couple articles I found. The Wal-Mart website doesn't give any info on future stores here in the Charlotte area. My guess is, in the spring they'll have a better idea as to an opening for the summer of 09.
Posted: Sunday, Oct. 12, 2008 http://www.charlotteobserver.com/272/story/244678.html The Wal-Mart Supercenter going up off Derita Road in Concord should open by next summer, a spokesman for the Arkansas company said. That's just a few months later than originally announced for the project, which is part of a mixed-use retail and residential site. Wal-Mart's estimated construction cost is $9.7 million for the store at 5825 Thunder Road N.W., according to Cabarrus County records. It is part of a 143-acre site being developed by Crescent Resources that will include a 312-unit apartment complex along with retail uses. Crescent also plans to extend Thunder Road through the property to Derita Road. The project is near Concord Mills mall, off Concord Mills Boulevard.
I believe so. The Concord WM looks to be about 20,000 sf larger than the "new university" WM.
The new Wal-Mart at the site will be 196,021 square feet, which is one of Wal-Mart's small- to mid-size store prototypes, but it will carry a full line of groceries. The site was annexed into the city of Concord within the past year and does not require a rezoning, according to planning officials.
The North Tryon Street store will be at University Point Boulevard near the proposed IKEA site, a furniture retailer that will build at the City Boulevard exit off Interstate 85, and will be 177,538 square feet. It also will carry a full line of groceries.
