86 residential burglaries in 2 years, 3 months. That's high I would say. But again, there are thousands of apartments in that area. Assuming there are 4,000 apartments about 1/2 from the campus (that's probably low). That's just two percent of the apartments over 2 years, 3 months. It's a pretty low ratio.

Also, your sex offender stats are off and misleading.

85 sex offenders live within a five-mile radius, which sounds scary, but again, out of 100,000 people, not really that much. Plus, the majority live down Tryon, past the 85, in the Tom Hunter Road area. That area is truly bad, but it's not University.

Take those stats down to a 3-mile radius of the campus. Only 15.

A 1-mile radius -- Only 3.

The wealthiest, ritziest zip code in town, 28277, has 10 sex offenders within a 3-mile radius.

In urban areas, when talking stats, 5-mile radiuses are worthless.

There will always be a high number of car break-ins near colleges. It's simple cause and effect. College kids, on average, tend to be rather careless with their stuff. They leave their ipod, gps, cell phone, cds, backpacks, etc. in their cars, often overnight. Those things are just begging to be lifted, and robbers know this.

To put it to you anecdotally, when I was in college I drove a 2001 Malibu and my roommate a 1996 Saturn. His car was broken into twice in one year. Mine was never touched, even though we parked next to each other. The difference? My car was always empty of valuables. He kept his CD player (with the face attatched) and hundreds of CDs in plain sight.



Unfortunately, sexual assault statistics will always be high in university areas too. College kids tend to be more likely to do stupid things and try to take advantage of girls when they've been drinking. In fact, I'd bet most of the reported rapes involve situations where the victim knew the attacker. Not justifying it, but my point is that it's not like there's an army of Crips and Bloods just waiting to jump out from behind the bushes and rape every female in sight.

I don't know where you learned to read, but I never said there weren't gangs. I said that it's not as if they are on every street corner like you are trying to portray.

Cleveland, don't think that any of us are saying that there is NO crime, just saying that it is not any worse here than in, say, Center City. Crime is everywhere. You just have to keep your street smarts about you and be careful. However, you still have not answered my question....what is your motive behind all this hatred? You say that you don't like Cleveland either, so, what is it? I assume that you don't live in U/C anymore since it is so awful here...so, what is your possible gain by doing this?

..and, just as a note, the Bloods that were arrested had their main HQ in Hidden Valley, which is NOT U/C. Not that they didn't come around here, sure, I saw them, but, this was not there main 'hood. Not enough money here. College kids and blue collar workers don't have the $$$ that THEY want....

As someone who has lived in three separate apt complexes in the vicinity of the University itself over the past three years, I can honestly say that I have never been a victim of crime. Now that doesnt mean a thing of course, but I think it goes to show that as long as you're aware of your surroundings and staying alert while walking alone,etc... things will be just fine. OTOH, a handful of my friends have been the victims of car break ins(over the course of three years). The area is no Myers Park, but not as bad as some make it out to be either.
