I feel badly for the children, they were given money for college and I think that was all gone too.

Another article I read stated that the family took out the loan to start a construction business. I'm not saying their actions were completely defensible, but it's not like they are being foreclosed because they used their home's equity to finance a crack habit.

Give a man a fish, he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish, he will eat for a lifetime.
Some of the give-aways are just downright STUPID. If someone has medical bills, you pay off the medical bills DIRECTLY, you don't give them $$. Plain and simple. If you want to help someone w/ college, you set up a trust for that minor. I don't hand out money to people; I like charities that take direct contributions, such as food banks. Food is distributed directly to those who need it. Other than the Humane Society, I don't give money except to the Salvation Army, b/c they manage their contributions so well. I won't even give to the Red Cross, after the 9/11 mess. During Katrina, I knew of a hospital in the Gulf Coast region . . . and they had employees who lost their homes - lost everything!!! So I contacted the Foundation for the hospital and found they were setting up funds to give the money DIRECTLY to their employees - no administrative fees taken out. You send $100 - the employees get that money. There are ways to help out people who need the help, and who are not gonna blow it. I was so glad I sent those contributions directly to the employees rather than to the Red Cross after I heard about the debit cards being used to buy Louis Vuitton purses. Dear God. Same w/ these television shows. It is all for ratings - that is why the programs exist! Promote the advertisers! Sometimes, the "give-aways" are for a good cause and do serve to help people solve a problem and move ahead in their lives. I hope this family in Charlotte will make good use of the gift . . . and I hope I won't be reading a story two years from now about how they lost their house b/c they couldn't afford to stay in it b/c of higher utility bills and taxes. |

Have no fear. Our taxes will bail them out and they'll be back on Easy Street.

I have often wondered if some of these individuals can afford to fix their toliets how in the H are they going to pay the taxes, insurance and maint on these mini-mansions. Also, many of these individuals existing homes are dirty and not well maintained. One can be poor and still clean up after themselves. If the citzens want to help out individuals in need build them a Habijax Home, something they can manage and still have a nice place to live. I can only imagine what some of these beautiful homes look like now.
