Natives or newcomers: who is in your neighborhood?
I have a native Floridian next to me and we enjoy having a cup of coffee in the mornings on the weekends . . . next to me is a delightful single young man, and we often end up working on lawn projects together (he is from another Southern state) . . . my neighbors elsewhere in the cul-de-sac are all from Northern states, except for a Korean family . . . and the street that is perpendicular to mine - everyone is from a Northern state except for one retired couple, from Georgia. Going up the street, every single person w/in the four houses on each side of the street are from Northern states, except one, and they are from Florida. We have wonderful neighbors - everyone is very friendly . . . all ages . . . some w/ babies and toddlers, some w/ school aged or college aged kids . . . some retired folks . . . We get out and walk in the evenings, and often have our doggies in tow . . . share yard tips and community info . . .
When someone moves into the neighborhood, they inevitably tell me I am the first actual "native" they have met! So I am wondering - what about your neighborhood? Who lives near you? Is your neighborhood friendly? Have you found that it is actually easier to meet friends here than elsewhere b/c nearly everyone is "from somewhere else" - and eager to make new associations?

The next home to the south of us is a couple where one is from Michigan and the other is from Georgia. My wife and I are from Michigan, as well. To the north of us is a couple from Colombia (notice the spelling, that's the country, not the city in SC), next to them is a couple from Bradenton, FL. Across the street a couple from Baltimore just moved in.

Our neighbors on our right are from Charlotte. The neighbors on the left & in back are from New England. The neighbors across the street are from Florida. I don't know where the rest of the people are from that live in this subdivision.

We have both. When we first moved in, most were transplants. Now all locals. Guess that's the sign of the market elsewhere now.

On our street (dirt road actually) we have 8 houses and as far as I know everyone who lives here has lived in the NC area their entire lives. Seems people in our area don't move around much. I guess because it's so rural and many of the homes/land and farms are handed down to family members. We are the newbies and the only ones that I am aware of from out of state.

Seems like older neighborhoods and those outside CLT city limits may have more natives . . . ???? I am surprised that my neighborhood doesn't have more local or longtime residents. Two of the families in my neighborhood have been here more than ten years, even tho they moved here from out of state. So that seems pretty much "local" if a family has been here that long. Still surprises me, tho, how few natives I run into in this area of S. CLT.

The oldest homes here are 12 yrs old, so everyone is from somewhere, somewhen. 10 yrs are the oldtimers, from elsewhere in NC. Next door are 2yrs from CA, other side 4 yrs from NY via Atlanta and SC. I have met people that have been here for 10yrs but have no accent, so I have to ask them where they are from
Huntersville has gone from a population of 4,000 to 40,000 in 15 years (numbers approximate.. let's look it up to get the real nos. ) so that kind of growth can only take place from inmigration.

Next to me they are originally from NC but not Charlotte and been here for 8 years. Other side of me are natives. Across from me are from Masschusetts but been here for 11 years. Next to them are natives. Next to them are from Philadelphia. Another neighbor I know is a native there as well.
I know others and they have been here for years but unsure where they are originally from or are natives.
I love my neighborhood, I only have been here since Jan of this year and not exactly outgoing but manage to almost meet everyone.
