They have to, otherwise they'll get hit with defamation lawsuits. All criminals are "suspected" or "alleged". They could have a video of someone saying "I'm Jim Beam and my ssn is 001-23-3210 and I'm robbing this bank" and they will call him the alleged bank robber. It's stupid.
With our burglar in question, his family could sue the station saying that "he was a good guy and kicked down the door and was helping take some valueables out, in preparation for Hurricane Hanna. Then the homeowner went crazy and shot him." So thus he is "suspected"
Why can't my wife accuse me of allegedly not mowing the lawn?

Take heed: we need to get that Castle Doctrine moving forward and passed in our state (it's been stalled for several years now in committee referral--fancy way of saying "we don't want to make that hot decision")! There'd be no question here if it was in place. Now, we've got an innocent homeowner who's going to incur legal expenses, mental anguish from the DA, and pressure from the media.

Yeah, after looking over that briefly it needs to be passed. ...why is it that the criminals are the ones that seem to get all the rights and "nice" treatment? ...this should be passed.

His prior arrests include felony burglary, false imprisonment, attack on a female, etc. Here is a list - you can click on each item and see why he was arrested in the past.

I doubt they'll charge the homeowner (or is that alleged homeowner? ) with anything...they do have to go through the motions though, and conduct an investigation so there can be no comeback later on by the miscreant's family etc.

If you look, the incident on 6/15/2007, he was listed as a BM. I wonder if he got released because of a paperwork problem. Also I wonder if that incident got charged to the BM community.

I wish someone would explain to me what goes thru/ a person's mind that allows him/her to rob other people as a way of life. I just don't get it. People have to know that there is always the chance they could encounter someone w/ a gun who decides to use it . . .
You gotta wonder why people find this "line of work" a way to sustain themselves. I would rather be doing anything to make myself a regular salary (w/ bennies, especially) than risking my life breaking in other people's space and taking their goods. I mean, can't be all that easy to sell stuff you rip off . . .and even if the stuff can be sold, surely it can't sell for much . . . ???? Seems like a crazy way to conduct one's life.

Yeah I don't get it either. And of course I think stealing stuff from someone is horrible. Why not make a regular living and earn it.
Oh well, I guess some people are looking for "an easy way out"...I'm sure drugs come into play often when people are trying to support their habit.

I agree, now how do we go about moving it out of committee?
