There must be more to your story, as I don't think you would be concerned that a law enforcement officer might be "dangerous" to be around unless something else had occurred that made you feel he is a bigot and you are a minority.
Typically, we all feel safer knowing a LE officer lives near us. And many municipalities allow cops to take their cars home.
If all you are concerned about is that he likes guns, likes to hunt and owns big dogs - I gotta tell ya - that would fit a lot of us, lol. I like to target shoot and love big dogs . . . and guys who hunt (especially deer hunting) wear camo.
As a single mother with four kids and one on the way . . . you should be feeling glad someone lives in the neighborhood whose mere presence may be a deterrent to someone breaking into your home. You haven't had any kind of run-in with the guy, have you?

there is a huge difference how reads the penal code and what happens in a court of law.
how safe do you wana be. . you do not have the right to kill thieves on sight that is not self defense.

Believe it or not, I actually had a police officer tell me that. But that applies to intruders who are at your front or back door...or a window; breaking in.
Unfortunately, stealing an AC or car usually will places them too far from your house, for it to pass the sniff test.
I think the best thing Ani could do is this. If she sees some thug/thief stealiing her car or A/C, she should......
1) Go get her weapon of choice (make sure it's amply loaded).
2) Slip into a sexy lingerie or simply unbutton her blouse down to the last button and make sure her boobies are almost completely visable. (Don't delete this Sunny, I have a point here and I'm going somewhere with it )
3) Go to the front door and seductively call to the thief (make sure to show plenty of cleavage. Maybe a little leg or a$$, too). Give him that ..." come hither, big boy" .........look.
4) As the thug starts heading towards you. Back up slowly and seductively.......and remove a small article of clothing (for further enticement and to really bury the hook deep in his gills).
5) Once the thug crosses through your doorway, pull out the weapon and shoot his ass till he looks like swiss cheese.
Oh, and you could video tape it. It would be a very educational and inspiring work piece. Purely from a scientific and educational standpoint of law enforcement and self-defense . Purely science, I tell you.

But if one starts waving a knife at your throat or pulls a gun on ya, I believe hitting a guy on the head with a cement block, whapping him with a baseball bat, or shooting him at that point would be self-defense, whether you are on the street or in your house.

Well, 10 years ago, your scenario would probably have had a possibility of working. But this is how it would go now . . .
I lure the guy in and start tearing off my clothes . . . and he screams in horror - and says "No way!!! I am a young thug and I ain't into fluffy old gals!!!!" and he dashes out the door, never to be heard from again, lol.

Well, your account of yourself may be debatable. I can't say one way or the other. Don't know.
But either way, there is a desirable and favorable outcome. In your scenario he completetly forgets about the car or A/C and goes running for the hills.
You're safe. Your property is safe. It's a Win-Win situation

When they bust down your front door, they are in your face with guns so quick, you would not be thinking of where is my pepper spray, or my freeze gun. You would have to be waiting at both doors with a gun before they come in and they come in when they think you have gone to bed or retiring for bed.

Some people would advocate keeping an extra, unregistered gun around the house to plant on a robber after you shoot them when they are unarmed.

There is a device called the Strikemaster II. The device makes it near impossible to kick in your door. That said, it doesn't mean they can't break a window or go in some other way. Seeing as how the first choice of thugs lately is to kick in the door, they'll probably take a few whacks at it before trying something else. Those several whacks should give you sufficient warning and plenty of time to lock and load.
