I've had the very same thoughts about the tools, Emissary.
With the tear gas, no cleaning up splattered brains. No need for a team of lawyers to figure out if I can shoot. I find it sooooooooooooooooo ridiculous that in Jersey my home is my castle unless some jerk decides to break in.

This thread really tickles me! I own some property in a third world country where OP's question is not a question. This is the norm.Including dragging the bad guy out to the curb. Police are called and they are as a dumb as a stick. If you told them the bad guy is out at the curb ---they would ask where is the curb?
Now back to Charlotte.A good deal of machoism had been already posted. This is what interests me. How many people on board have had the experience of shooting at one of the bad guys? How many people know or have first hand knowledge of someone having one of these horrifying experiences?
I would love to hear one of these stoties.

Not if it was an experience that occurred in Charlotte and the results of the incident would play a part in answering the OP's question.

I thought the bowling ball would be a little too intentional.

The legal implications of whackin' some yeahoo almost pale to the civil liability issues. If you have Castle Doctrine legislation wandering the halls of your legislature be sure to hound your...*cough cough* public servants to get this passed with the civil liability protection ironclad. (What group of politicians don't like that 'civil liability protection' again?? Hmmm.) Someone jackin' my A/C unit does not have to be worried about me shooting them unless of course the six witnesses I drag around with me everywhere I go say it's OK, they'll have my back when the popo shows up 20 minutes after the 911 call went out.

I have aimed a gun at a human being on two occasions, either of which were times when I had the full intention of pulling the trigger if I had to. Luckily, in situation A., the guys left, and in situation B, the man who was sneaking around my house meant no harm (he was the tax assessor). I know exactly how I felt at those moments - totally focused and purposeful and determined to protect myself and my property, if I needed to.
I have not had military training, but I had a dad who was a marine and a grandfather who retired from the Navy . . . grew up around hunters and marksmen . . . and I was taught - one does not pick up a loaded weapon and point it at anyone - EVER - unless it is in self defense and even then, never as a rash movement.
So to the poster who asked - do we know how it feels to make the decision to protect our families . . . I didn't have to pull the trigger but I certainly was ready to do that, had the circumstances unfolded differently. It is not something I take lightly, and despite our kidding around about thugs . . . and what we think should happen to them. . . I know no one on this forum would indiscriminately point a gun at anyone . . . but I also believe that there are many of us who would not only be ready to protect ourselves, we would stand up to defend our friends and family, as well.
