Default Don't forget magnet schools

Not as limited to particular geographic areas (but obviously don't want to drive too far), and some are rated very highly. Myers Park Traditional, Elizabeth Traditional, Villa Heights are some off the top of my head.

A lot of those magnet schools are not in the best areas to say the least.

My vote is for Elon Park, the staff and principal are great. They are friendly and always willing to help you out. This August the school will move to its new home on Ardrey Kell right now we are occupying what will be Flat Branch. I advise you visit the schools and get a feel for the environment. I agree some of the magnet schools are in not so great areas, we looked into them for DS.

Ever thought about SW Cabarrus County.. On the Meck line and in many instances closer to uptown than other areas of Charlotte. Schools are great.Check out nc school report cards. CC Griffin and Harrisburg Elem are much soought after schools Cabarrus

Cornelius Elementary School was a very good school until lately when the principal Barry Burford took over. I would say that the education has been good but, the latest report is not showing improvement. The principal is not supportive of his staff nor is he dipolomatic in dealing with the parents. Cornelius had a substantial number of teachers leave after last year - most of 2 separate grade levels. Char-Meck's response was that it consistent with the average of all the char-meck schools what they left out was that it wasn't consistent with Cornelius Elementary's history. Teachers used to want to come work there - not anymore - most that I've talked to now are trying to get into JV Washam, where the principal is supportive. There have been many opinions voiced in the local papers most negative. If the current principal leaves I would recommend it but, until that day comes I could not. JV Washam has a great reputation and many I know are happy there
