Default Best Elementary School in Charlotte-Mecklenburg??

Can anyone make any recommendations? I realize this is a completely subjective poll, but I'm moving to Charlotte this summer and would like to try to buy in an area with the best schools, particularly elementary. Thanks!

Have you been to the CMS site? It has some pretty good info.

Thanks! Yes, I've been to this website. I'm looking more for opinions from folks who have kids in elementary schools currently in CMS, or for information on how CMS elementary schools are ranked against each other and others in NC.

I have a child at Winget Park elementary which is a new school in southwest charlotte. We are pretty happy with the curriculum, teachers etc and have heard that Lake Wylie is about the same only older.

One big problem we found throughout cms is over crowding. Winget Park is in its first year and they already plan to use mobile classrooms next year! CMS is definitely behind the curve in regards to keeping up with the population increase... its a tough task but I came from a similiar area in Dallas which handled it much better.

In hindsight, I think we would have moved to ft mill (schools have great rep) if given another chance but we have already purchased a home so thats not an option. I have heard good things about Union county schools as well.

As far as the overcrowding schools are opening up as fast as they can build. Remember there are new families moving here in great amounts. Its like the Gold Rush.

Big fan of Cornelius Elementary and since they split the school boundary this year adding a new school, JV Washam to the area - I get to see many of the old teachers, friends and parents from Cornelius so the transition was an easy one for my youngest. Very, very active PTA's, fantastic scores and the staff is top notch. Look for teachers with their National credentials when you're making a decision and make an appointment to see the Principal during the school day. Get a feel for the teaching philosophies and the smile quotient in the hallways.

I adore McAlpine! It has fewer mobile classrooms than other local schools, and a number of the kids will be rezoned to Flat Branch when it opens. But we're moving to Tega Cay this summer, so I'll have a nice house for sale in a very desirable school district! McAlpine Elementary, Jay M Robinson Middle, Providence High.

McAlpine is just a fun school with happy teachers, happy kids, great test scores. It's everything I could hope for - my daughter LOVES going to school. She was sad last week when it snowed because she missed school.
