Tropical Storm Fay
IF the storm continues on its projected track it looks like the storm could dump a substantial amount of rain on the Charlotte region mid-week.....
Keep your fingers crossed...
Any predictions on the exact track and intensity?
I'm thinking it actually doesn't hit tampa. I'm guessing its not going to make its nw turn as soon as their predicting. It will stay off land in the extreme eastern gulf and hit the fl panhandle....by that time its prob a cat 2 minimum...
just my random prediction......

People in Miami are panicking like usual. We need the rain so who cares? Do your grocery shopping now and be prepared. No biggie

Just make sure it holds up for a three hr window Thursday night, I'd rather not be delayed in Philly coming home again for three hrs.

Who you kidding? I always thought they had a hard enough time scaring people out of the keys in time for any hurricane strike, thereby the main issue.

I think Miami is out of the woods in terms of a direct hit....
If they haven't done so yet, the people in the keys should be making preparations

Oh I think I need to go out and buy some of those five gallon gas cans and fill up today across the border in SC and stock up not because of a gas shortage but because oil companies will use this opprotunity to gauge us in price.

I don't foresee this as being that troublesome here for us. Yes, a tropical storm. Yes, some winds and rain. Hopefully, no power outages. I am thinking the hurricane will come is as Cat 1 and rapidly deteriorate as it heads N towards CLT. I have checked the water temps and don't see it accelerating that much. If it comes in as Cat 2, I think it will be low Cat 2. But I don't see if holding together into a full force hurricane for long after hitting land.
Here is what I would advise (and what I am going to do). Be prepared to handle power outages in case Fay comes in roaring, cause limbs and trees being downed will cause power outages. Even gusts to 65 mph can do that. I think there is only a low chance this will happen. However, I will have batteries and everything charged up (computers, phones). Turn your freezers and fridges up all the way to coldest setting 24 hours b/f Fay is anticipated coming here. That will allow things to hold for longer period.
Get food wh/ works for power outages, i.e. tuna, crackers, cereal, peanut butter, etc.
Have lighter fluid for your grill, so you can also use meat out of your freezer. Buy ice and put in coolers.
Put all lawn furniture in safe place. Some people throw lawn furniture in their pools. Take down umbrellas and lay them flat if you cannot remove them.
Check for trees that have damaged limbs - saw any of those down, if possible. Make sure there is nothing in your yard (or your neighbor's yard) that could go airborne and hit your windows.
Park cars in garage or safe spot, away from tree limbs.
Again, I don't foresee this storm as being more than a tropical storm that will cause us some wind and rain . . . but should it be a strong tropical storm, things can be blown around and power outages can occur.
Just be prudent and carry on . . .

Good post ani, as usual! I've been watching this storm closely and can see it coming this way as of now but as you said I don't see it coming in as anything terribly bad. I could be wrong. I often am! We sure could use the rain so I'm looking forward to that if it gets here. I will get my generator up and going just in case, fill our truck with gas and get a few odds and ends stocked up. We pretty much try to keep everything ready just in case. Moving here from CA where we lived with the constant fear of the big one(earthquake) has taught us to be prepared.

Anyone used to dealing w/ the possibility of earthquakes is doubtless in good shape for a disaster, LOL!!!! I hope this won't interrupt our week too badly. I have work that has to get finished this week and I will be depending on my computer to do it! So if things get wacky, I will be heading somewhere w/ electricity!!! That is truly the only thing that concerns me - power outages.
I don't wanna lose all the Stouffers in my freezer!!! LOL!!!!
FLIGHTATTENDANT: I hope you don't get stuck anywhere at a hub, either!!!! GOOD LUCK!!! I am sure we will have a post up about the weather situation as the storm nears! Be sure and check in if you can and let us know how things are going . . .
