Heck, ya, it's a good idea to move to NC/SC. Who in their right mind would ever want to live in NYC, especially, if trying to raise kids? That has to be the worst city in the country to live in. Having visited it once, I can honestly say no thank you and won't ever go there again if I can help it.
I am moving to Charlotte from the Greater DC burbs and seriously, my lifestyle is more “country” here in Greater DC then in will be in Charlotte. If you want more country, I honestly feel you will have more success looking a little North into VA (have you looked into Charlottesville??) or a little South into SC.
Visit. Do your homework. I did. It’s a must before assuming what Charlotte is. I am glad I did.

I guess that one time you visited NYC gave you an insight to the OP question.
OP is asking for help. Purpose of this forum board is to give help.
OP--I don't think you have the wisdom of knowledge and that is why you are "so confused" Come visit. Not once or twice but as many times that's necessary for you to make a decision as important as this. Research on this board.Take a DAY out of your life and read every post here on City-Data.
Compare all the FACTS to what you now have in LI and determine as a family what might be good for you.
Don't lasten to people that say "Yeah baby, come on down!" That's irresponsible and will only lead to your confusion.
Best of luck

You definately have to visit, several times if needed. Then make a list of the pros and cons of both places. But don't make your entire decision on that list though. But when I started looking that was my first step and expanded from there. You have to decide why you want to move and what it is you are looking to receive from the move, how it would better you and your family. Good luck and there are lots of people to help you along the way.
Thank You all I really dont no anything about the Carolina's so that why I did this to recieve info. It's really nice to have all of this input I dont want to move from a city to a city I do want the burb life. I am Medical Coder so I figure that every place needs coders but I will def. do research before I move. It's the Job market really bad or average?? I dont think that I would ever just pick up and leave and go some where I never been. It's going to take a couple of years. It really between GA.( Laweranceville, Douglasville, the dectuar Co. etc.) the job market really is down at this time. and N.C. I have already done research about GA. now I will totally invest. my time in N.C. so again Thank you for taking your time to help me.

Look at the hospitals in Philly. You can live in the burbs or the country & commute into town. There is a light rail (PATCO HIgh Speedline) into Center City & has stops near some of the medical facilities.
By your latest post, I think that's closer to what you are looking for, but remember, that is South Jersey & nothing like North Jersey.

I wouldnt quite say i'm outta my mind because my kids are being raised in NYC for now, but I'd say (not as eloquently as ohioaninsc) the move to NC would be great one. I'd say it's a better place to raise kids than NYC.

I visited Charlotte (a whole lot more more than once ) and i found that it's WAYYYY more kid friendly and family oriented than NYC is. I also found that although I hear more a lot of negatives things about the school system in Charlotte, when I compare the schools in NYC to those in Charlotte on greatschools.net, the Charlotte schools seem to do better. NOT to mention Charlotte is a nicer, more affordable place to live than NYC. IF it weren't for my hubby, we would be living there. He keeps changing his mind about moving. So alas much to my dismay i'm in NYC.
