Older well maintained homes
I hear alot on here about the newer subdivisions and new homes but I dont hear anything about older well maintained homes. I would prefer an older well maintained home (personal preference) in a safe area surrounding Charlotte. Can anyone help with that?

Matthews has many beautiful older homes. I went to an estate sale in the Meyers Park area the other day and I fell in love with the houses. Old Georgian Colonials, big Victorians, stately white oaks. really beautiful! I'm assuming they are very expensive too, though.
The house that had the estate sale had the greatest 1930's kitchen!

Yeah, I'm sure they are. Still, it is my dream to live in a big old Victorian with a wrap around porch and 12 foot ceilings.
I see you're from Ohio too! A lot of the houses in Matthews remind me of Shaker Heights.

I LOVE the older homes! Yes, I would LOVE a big ole Victorian home with a wrap around porch with a HUGE kitchen!
Yes I am from Ohio-Columbus (and yes I am a Buckeye fan dispite their bowl game performance) to be exact. You mentioned Shaker Heights, so you are familiar with the Cleveland area Im assuming

I agree! It seems everyone is interested in new homes on the forums. I much prefer an older house, so much more interesting plus the history of it.
I'm looking in the south/west Charlotte area. Anyone have information on older homes there??
Thanks!

Judi, you won't find many older homes in southwest Charlotte because until about 15 years ago it was just very rural farmland. Most of those farms sold off to the developers that are now transforming that part of town to mostly residental areas. There are exceptions of course but your best bet would be to talk to a realtor who knows that area and see what she can scrounge up for you. You would have better luck looking for older homes in Belmont, Mt. Holly or Fort Mill.

I am not really sure how "old" you want to go.
We had a 1910 Craftsman in Pasadena, CA and although we loved it, I will never go that old again.
We have a 1989 home here that was custom made and has 6" exterior walls. It is VERY well built and we chose this house for that reason. We also don't like areas where all the houses look alike. That is one thing that was hard for me when we moved here from CA. We didn't even have sub-divisions in Los Angeles!

There are older homes in South Charlotte but they come with a high price tag. It just depends on what you want to pay. Union County, Lancaster and York Counties are possibilities. Do you need to stay in NC or could you go over the line to SC?
