The Carolina Golf Club is a short Donald Ross course and is currently going through a makeover. They are re-creating the old layout and it should be good. The course is in the 'hood' and is surrounded by high fences for a reason.

I am a member at Raintree and love it. We pay $270 or so per month and the joining fee is $10,000 which is payable over 3 or 4 years. We have the best greens year round in the city and a club which is not pretentious in any way. We are not one of those clubs that you join for the status or for 'business' reasons. We just have a bunch of good people who want to play at a nice club and enjoy a beer or two afterwards.

The club house is a 1970's disaster, but everything else is good and it is without doubt the best private membership deal in town.

I have played a few courses on the carolina trail and they are pretty good.

From what I have heard, Carolina Golf Club is going to be quite a nice course after the renovation. I believe it either just opened up or is going to open up in the near future.

After seeing this thread a couple of weeks ago I took Ani's advice (post #5) and applied to the Charlotte City Club. I was interviewed there last week for a Nov. membership. Don't know if I will be accepted but am looking forward to becoming a member and playing at their recipocal clubs.

I would like to thank Ani again for her excellent suggestion.

It's a great club b/c they have a terrific venue, great for after work as well as conducting business . . . nice menu/wine/bar . . . and the benefits of playing at other courses thru/t the country can be really nice if that fits your lifestyle (or business travel).

Glad you found the suggestion helpful, John.

Really?

Wow, that isn't far from us at all. We haven't joined anything yet (my boys usually get to play free if they are signed up for lessons anyway.) but I will have to check it out! I didn't realize anyone could join.

Thanks,

Dawn

I can't tell from their site, do they allow family memberships, or is it adults only?

Thanks,

Dawn

I am sure kids can take advantage of eating in the club, for ex., but there really is not much for a child to do . . . as the actual location is very business oriented, since the club facility is stand alone and uptown - no golf course, tennis courts, etc on site.

Now, the reciprocal membership benefits - that may make it possible for you to use the tennis courts and pools at other clubs nearby, but I think there is a restriction to how many times a month one can do that.

It is worth checking out, but honestly, if I were wanting a membership where my kids could get maximum benefit from all the recreation - I would think about Cedarwood or Raintree.

Now here is a club I have wanted to check out. Is anyone a member at Pine Island?

Dawn - if this is a convenient location for you - I would suggest checking Pine Island CC out.

Also - anyone have info on Rolling Hills CC in Monroe? I had someone ask me about Rolling Hills several weeks ago and I have never been there.
