Does anyone else miss the days when there was a Frosty Freeze or Dairy Shack (non-chains) that served the sweet, creamy goodness of soft serve ice cream?

I was having a serious craving, so I ventured out to a place that I was 99% sure would have soft serve, especially since they have cones in their name......and no soft serve, just the hard stuff.

So where has the soft serve gone?

Good question. I prefer soft-serve over hand dipped myself. I believe Marble Slab has soft-serve yogurt and Rita's has soft-serve custard. Dairy Queens only serve vanilla which ticks me off till no end since I am a chocoholic.

Jason's Deli is using it all up with their free soft-serve!

Seriously though, if you want some, go to Jason's deli, order the cheapest thing on their menu, and go enjoy all the soft serve you can handle.

UNCGirl98: This is actually a very good idea and I have actually done it a few times myself. Their soft-serve is chocolate and pretty good. No fudge though, but alas.

Golden Corral has good soft-serve as well AND fudge and caramel with the typical dry toppings. Good stuff, but expensive because you have to buy the lunch/dinner.

I think that may be the answer, It's Dairy Queen or all the other resteraunts. Also Yogurt took over some of the soft serve market. I am a big fan of DQ though, but why do they close at 9!!!!

That's one of the things I love about Rita's: their Custard.

It is so much better than that crummy soft-serve people serve these days. Whatever happened to good old fashioned soft ice cream (with dairy in it)?

Amen, if I'm going to break my diet, I want to do it right! Guess I'll have to hit the Frosty Freeze when I go back home. It hasn't changed since I was 5, i hope they keep it that way!

If you get down to Union County there is a soft serve ice cream shop on 84 between Airport Road and Rocky River Road. Sorry, I can't remember the name.

The ice cream is pretty good, a cone is just $1.00 and all the toppings (hard shell chocolate and strawberry, cookie crumbs, M&M's, butterscotch, caramel, etc.) are no extra charge!!
