is there a sight that will show how many days a home has been on the market? or are the sites only accessible if you're a realtor?

I've seen it, Check Realtor.com & Yahoo real estate. I usually look at them, so one of them might have it.

Stephen - The only place I know that you can find that information is MLS. Realtors and others with access to MLS can run an 'archive' search on a property which shows the listing date, price, price reductions, etc. There may be another way to find that information but I have never heard of it.

Sometimes the property will be withdrawn from the market and re-listed (either with another agent or to activate it as a new listing). The days on market will start over when this is done - so the only way to accurately determine days on market is to do an archive search!

Yahoo real estate offers a list date on their site. This may or may not be accurate information though. I am looking on that site now, and see many that do not offer the actual list date. This may just be based off of a change to the listing. A realtor can research to see the true list date, price changes, expiration dates and relist dates.

Thanks, I knew I'd seen it occasionally.

Some folks are either just browsing and don't want to "get serious" with a realtor or, as in my case, just don't want to use a realtor. With the amount of info and resources that are quickly becoming available to the common Joe via mainly the internet, it's not that hard to do it by yourself nowadays. Not saying there aren't transactions that could use the extra help of a realtor, but it's not always needed. If you've got the mental capacity to do the leg work yourself, it saves money and, in some instances, helps the deal go much smoother.

To the OP, I am sure that if you called any real estate office they would be happy to assit with you in finding out the days on market. You could tell them that you are just "browsing" and they will understand. Lots of people call for information just like this all the time.

While anyone could purchase their home without the assistance of a real estate agent, it is our jobs to ensure the seller/buyer sells/gets the property at the right deal.

I personally purchased our first home without the assistance of a realtor and bought a FSBO. It was a gut wrenching experience, and we were not sure that we doing everything that we needed to. After it was all said and done, we wished that we had used a realtor to ease us through the process. Now many years later, this is my profession.

Not to side track this tread, but a realtor is there to help their client, protect them and ensure that all legal basis are covered. From negotiations, inspections, repairs, reinspection and to closing.

Try trulia.com or zillow.com or hotpads.com. Sometimes these sites have more info!
