One thing that keeps turning up in my research is references to the Lake Norman sea monster. Is this an inside joke or is there really a mysterious big fish in the lake? Or maybe it's a marketing campaign (but for whom?)I'd love to hear details. And... does it have a name?

There is no monster....it's all a vast right-wing conspiracy....to scare people into paying more taxes....so the police department can assign the Chief of Police himself to patrol the lake....to serve and protect (of course)....in a fully tricked-out 45-footer trawler with all the trimmings....paid for with those extra tax dollars....and that fancy fishing tackle on the boat....an attempt to lure the monster to the surface....so they can give him a ticket for operating a public nuisance....

Where was the monster prior to the lake's creation in the early 1960s, New Jersey?
