Car Battery for Honda CRV
Just thought that I would let any other CRV owners know of the apparent run on car batteries for your vehicle.
Last month, I had the Honda serviced...60k service...at the Honda dealership that I bought the car at. At the time, they recommended a new battery. I declined, thinking that a car battery is something that can be found pretty much anywhere and the dealership prices would be a lot more expensive. Plus, I reasoned, I can squeeze a little more time out of the current battery.....
OK, so, it is now time to get the battery. No problem, I will buy it at the tire store that I go to when I get the tires rotated. WRONG. The tire store does not sell batteries. So, I drive a mile up the road to the auto parts store (hoping that they will put the battery in; my days of car mechanic work are long gone)...not to worry about that, because they have every other battery known to mankind, but, my particular one....not so much.
Now annoyed, I go to do another errand when I find out that I have to go down to the Elizabeth neighbourhood (another post). There, I find an actual service station that advertises batteries. Yeah. Not any for the CRV. This guy refers me to an actual battery store just a mile away that should definately have it.
Battery store seems to be modern, well stocked and full of helpful associates. Explain my dilemma, store manager is confident that he can help. Guess what? Although they LITERALLY have every battery known to mankind...my battery is sold out.
I am seriously frustrated at this point. Store manager says, wait a minute...let me check something...end of the story, he finds the only difference between my battery and another one is the placement of the posts...it might work.....YEA!!! We have a winner!!
Point of story: If you own a Honda CRV and the dealer says you need a battery, nod politely and say, "yes sir". Second point: Interstate Battery store on Kings Dr...the store manager Landam...great guy.
Battery cost $110.00. don't think it would have been that much different at the dealer who I have to call anyway because now my radio needs a code to be operational.....SIGH

Oh my, ChiCubs . . . what a circle you have gone in to get that elusive battery! I enjoyed your story even tho I know it was frustrating to you!
Who would have guessed that CRV batteries are so hard to find??
Also - thanx for the rec on Interstate Battery. Nice to know someone was so helpful and really care about your situation.
Hope the rest of the day goes easier . . . can you just call the dealership and get the code???? Good luck!!!

For future reference, there is a battery house on 24th Street (just north of downtown) that will more than likely have the battery in stock and for a LOT cheaper that that.
I've got batteries there for Mercedes, Bentley, Rolls Royce, and a few others. Always in stock and NEVER more than $70.

Yes, Ani, I can call them to get the code. My new problem will be time...working 4 11 hour days...will have to write myself a note to call them during my lunch break. SIGH
and, thanks to the other poster for the info. However, in the future, (if I have another CRV) I think that I will buy it from the dealer. This one, for $110.00, should outlive me and the car both!!!!

Wow. Had a problem with my battery in 2006 CR-V, went over to Sears, bought the DieHard sized for my car, installed it myself and returned old battery there for a rebate. Paid less that $70.

Well, there is no Sears near to me, but, if the Interstate Battery thing did not work out, I was going to drive the 20 miles to the closest one to try them.

We have a 2006 CRV...and my son left the dome light on.
It was on all day/night, and the batteries died.
Anyway, we charged it up but it was never the same again.
We took it to the dealership, and they replaced it for free.
They said it was under the warranty.
Maybe yours has one...

thanks, Ren...well, it is all over now, but, I doubt that the warranty would have been in effect since 2003...although hindsight makes me wonder if it would have been covered by the extended warranty...no matter. it is done now.

Well, since there truly are not any "domestic" cars anymore....I doubt it.
But, in the last 20 years, this is the first time that I have had to buy a battery (as you can tell) and I have had a variety of Hondas...so....that should tell you something right there...
