A very cold straight up Manhattan Cocktail in Ciro's
So I went this week to Ciro's and ordered a "straight up, very cold Manhattan".
It was very cold! With shaved ice that diluted the non existent alcohol. Took a sip..then another and thought about the old "Well...in NY, we thing!"
Refused to do that! Don't want to be labeled and don't find value in discussing that BS while I am in a city that might do it differently.
So, this guy I'm with (ex-bartender at TGIF) wants to get up and have a smoke. I say"Hey Jeff while you're up ask the young lady for another and tell her to make it with a little "buzz in it". Well, he is delighted to take up this assignment. Smoking away at the bar while telling her this big bad guy from NY would like a goood Manhattan.
She comes to my table and all in a a tither ,wants to go into the details as to how I would like this Manhattan made. We have a little conversation and talk about about what time she gets off tonite and maybe we can make Manhattan's together. (yeah right, I was up at 2:30 AM that morning!)
The new Manhattan arrives like the second coming of JC. She fawns over me and of course I must agree (to her) it's the best Manhattan I ever had in my life. Now folks, I am sure you know what it tasted like. The same.
Check comes and ...no charge. I talk to her and commend her for the no charge. She says why would I charge you for somethoing you didn't like?
Moral of the story is ...this is hard for NY transplants to understand. I'm trying my best as I want more peace in my life. Less aggession. Less--Lets put the boxing gloves on.
Viva Charlotte and this way of life and attitude.

Just sounds like a bartender who doesn't know how to make a certain kind of drink.
Trust me, they have those in NY too.
