if they build a mound and they all come out when you scratch the surface then they are fire ants. My father swears by pouring boiling water over the mound.... I have saturated a small mound with home defense from HD and they never came back. Sevin should work well.... It's a lot easier to catch them when they are small... I always walk the lawn looking for them.

I had a bad run in with those little suckers on the golf course..... My ankles still itch when I just think about them

Good Luck

I had one crawl up my pants leg once. I stripped down to my underwear in my storage unit on S. Tryon Street.

Just pouring water over them will not work because they can survive in water. Hence the floating colonies when we had all the flooding. Definately mix in some Seven, that stuff will kill anything!

Grits, Ants and Fire Ants: The Truth!

Feed them grits only if you want more ants. The idea is that the ants will eat the grits and then swell up and die. But that's what they told us would happen with pop rocks and soda too.

Just go get the Sevin.

I got bit by a fire ant this weekend whild mowing the lawn and I must be allergic because my whole ankle swelled up and the bite ballooned into a blister the size of a quarter. My ankle is still hurting and swolen.

But the funny thing is that I had some company from Georgia over and they told me to put grits on the mounds. I had instant grits, but they said that wouldn't work. They said the ants eat the grits, swell up and die. I wonder if it really works. Gotta try it.
