Hello everyone. Why does this year start to get insanely busy. I have added planning a baby shower to my list for mid-November and am looking for a place to have it (20 people). My house would work, but I'm on the opposite side of town from most of the attendees. Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced restaurant or space to rent (we'll bring in the food for the space)? I looked up La-tea-das, they start at $19/person +room rental and drinks which is a little steep for me. Thanks for the help!

Do you need something in the N area - Huntersville, M'ville, Concord, Cornelius?

I live in that area, but almost everyone else is in South Charlotte, so was thinking more middle of town or even Matthews (closer to the momma to be).

I have no idea what costs may be involved, but here are some ideas. Also, I have booked hotels for seminars, reunions, etc - using their conference rooms. So that is also a possibility. You don't have to contact an expensive hotel. Places like Candlewood Suites, Country Inn and Suites, Courtyard, etc. Just call and ask about booking a room or hospitality suite for an event and see what they say.

WOOPS - I had listed stuff in H'ville, Concord, Cornelius, etc. Let me do some more thinking for S. CLT.

I have no clue what the Mint Museum charges, but I have been there for some get togethers and they have some neat spaces.

I will see what else I can think of . . .

I am not sure how formal you want this shower to be, but here is my suggestion:

Jonathan's (formerly The Tryon House), 10630 Independence Pointe Parkway, Matthews, NC 28105, this is located on the side street besides Target in Matthews.

The phone number is 704-847-8911, ask for Sherry. She is there most days (I called and she is there today until 9:30) You do not pay any reservation fee for the room. All they ask is to eat off the menu, however you can bring an outside cake into the restaurant. And there is anything and everything on the menu for anyone's appetite and budget. She said that you can even come in and decorate before the party. There is a wall so that it can be private.

Since you are planning for November, she suggested to try to book as soon as you can. That is a busy season for Holdiay parties/luncheons, etc.

CAUTION: There is a pond out front of the restaurant and there a geese and other types of birds that live there, so as long as that does not gross you out, then it will be ideal.

Good luck. Hope this helps and good luck.

Here is a very nice list of restaurants that have private rooms. I like this list so much, I am making a copy of it for myself.

I went to a very nice baby shower at LePeep in the Arboretum. They had a back room that we were all in. I'm not sure how many of us there were, so I don't know what size they can accomodate, but the prices weren't that bad if I remember from the menu.

I am looking for a space to host a baby shower on May 5th that holds about 75 people and i want to bring my own food. It can be in Charlotte, Concord, Kanapollis or Matthews. I dont want to spend more than 200 on the space.

Check into the fire stations. Some of them have community rooms that you can rent. There is one at exit 58 off I-85. It's fire station #9. I think it might be $100 ($50 deposit) and $50 (probably per hour) to rent.

I would recommend looking at the many Mecklenburg County park shelters for reservation. It's within your budget and many are in great locations with convenient access to unload food/drink/entertainment supplies.
