Haha, the Middle School Maddness craze was a little past my time (actually I think I went to the very first one the Harris Y had as an 8th grader), but my sister went to the Siskey and JCC ones religiously and loved them. My parents were pretty protective and didn't have a problem with her going, as long as she was dressed appropriately and went with friends they trusted.
Some of my friends worked the dances during late high school/college summer breaks and always got a great kick out of breaking up all the little bits of action they could find.
There was an article about the Harris YMCA Dance in the Charlotte Observer a few months ago. You may be able to search their new site in the archives to find out more info.
My son and his friends LOVE SNS! The only drag are the long lines you have to wait in to pick your teen up.
Here's some more info with SNS dates for 2008/2009: YMCA of Greater Charlotte

Hey. I work at SNS!! It is a great place for parents to send their middle schoolers spend a saturday night in a safe environment. We have between 15 and 30 high school volunteers and about 15 paid staff every Saturday. We also have at least 5 police officers in the building. I went to MSM (Middle School Madness) when i was younger and loved it!! SNS(Saturday Night at the Siskey) is MSM just with our name on it so that there will be no confussion between ours and MSM at Harris YMCA. I hope this helped you out
