Gas Shortage?
Ok I was just warn by brother to stock up on gas and I am trying to confirm his source and my partner said that Petro express has ask people to ration gasoline due to the hurricane but I cannot find any online source to confirm this information.
The ovious is that it is the time to stock up anytime a hurricane hits the gulf but I just like to have proof.
Anyone else heard anything? or Should we all meet at the Carowinds Exxon?

There's always excuses for the price of gas to hike up....Even when oil prices dropped to almost $100 a barrel we only saw a .40 cent drop in gas prices; and it took how long. It's quite amazing how fast prices go up and how slow they go down. However, with hurricane Ike prices are sure to jump higher. It looks like ground zero is going to be Houston and Galveston. Hopefully, the refineries in the area will not be damaged. But i'm sure production will drop. This country needs to build more, modern refineries however, thanks to the BS in our government nothing gets done. I just hope the people that will be affected by the hurricane will be OK and our government doesn't blow it like they did during Katrina

Oddly enough the gas companies said that they weren't charging enough for gas, but couldn't justify charging as much as they could have. I guess this is their catch up time to regain their 'losses".

Shortage? Sounds like a ploy by the oil industry so everyone will go out and buy, buy, buy. How many times have we seen a major shortage from hurricanes, especially one that constitutes panic? I say filler' up, and don't worry about it. If you are wrong, well, there's always public transportation!

You do realize that the "Oil Companies" make pennies in profits from gasoline sales, don't you?
And since you call it a "ploy", what do you think a major hurricane shutting down 25% of our refinery capacity for a week will do to supplies? Increase it?

seriously.....not to be rude, but people are so quick to blame the oil compaines for our energy problems. They are a business, just like the one I own....and guess what, I own it to make a profit and make a living and so do they.
Its america's fault for driving huge SUV's and trucks that get 8-10 miles per gallon, when you could be driving a normal size car getting 20+ miles per gallon.........its also our govt's fault for not imposing higher mpg standards on ALL cars and trucks being made today.
Just so people who do not know, know....please understand how oil prices and gasoline prices change EVERY SINGLE DAY....oil and gas are a commodity that is traded on the stock market and the prices we pay are all based on news and world events......not "ploys" by the oil companies....again, they are in business to make a profit and thats the bottom line. It just sucks that we need what they sell so badly.

I blame George Bush and his Evil Weather Machine for any spike in oil prices this weekend.

Pennies? I don't think so. Although I do know that they get taxed out the rear and make alot less than many people believe. That being said, it's obvious the "oil companies" (why the quotes, btw?) have at least something to do with pricing and supply. Why is it that as soon as a tropical storm is mentioned in the news, gas prices traditionally spike immediately; but when market conditions constitute a drop in prices, it takes days for us to see that.

Well, I don't think it will cause a major supply interruption, one that will cause a long-term shortage. Have you been awake for the last hurricanes? Minor "supply" problems have "occured", but this recent "rumor" gig is rediculous. So which "oil company" do you work for?
