The Charleston Place Hotel: Charleston SC Hotel: Charleston Place Hotel, the finest hotel accommodation in Charleston

The French Quarter Inn: Luxury Charleston Hotels * Luxury Charleston SC Hotels and Lodging * Charleston Bed and Breakfast Inn * Luxury Charleston Accommodations * French Quarter Inn

Or, you could stay at The Sanctuary at Kiawah - a short ride to Charleston: Charleston, SC Hotel: The Sanctuary Hotel, Kiawah Island’s Luxury Beach Hotel, South Carolina

Those are all pretty pricey, however. Here is a list of other choices (many more affordable options) with locations:

Without kids I would go see Charleston but, thats because I have never been there and hear the sight seeing is a must.

HH is also very nice, I took my first trip on July 4th this year and decided I was going back next year before I even made it to the hotel. Got a nice deal on a 4 star hotel for $101 a night on one of those name your price websites, wound up at the beach front Marriot.

My wife and I were totally bored there accept for a couple of bars it really didn't have much to offer. At HHI there's tons of shopping, restaurants, Golf, Ocean, Tennis, Minature golf, fishing, you name it, it's all at HHI. A day trip to Savannah is awesome and so is Beaufort. I've been to Charleston a few times and my wife and I just don't get Charleston. HHI, Savannah and Beaufort are much better choices. Have a great vacation !
I have to disagree - I think Charleston wins HANDS DOWN over Hilton Head. The restaurants, the atmosphere, the history, you can't even compare the two. And I hate how Hilton Head is so limited in where you can go. You have to be staying in a certain section to be able to get thru the gate to it. And there is no where to ride along and see the ocean at all. It has been so well planned as a place where the rich homeowners rule that every view of the ocean is blocked. Charleston is a much more walkable city - and on that walk you see so much!! Yeah, there's plenty of tennis and golf in Hilton Head, so what, I can do that in Charlotte A romantic bed and breakfast in Charleston would be it for me.

If you find the bed and breakfast too expensive there are some more affordable hotels. This one is in a great location and closer to $150. a night.

Francis Marion Charleston Hotel in Charleston, South Carolina

Charleston has the name but not the game for my wife and I. Just not into the place at all. I enjoyed Myrtle Beach and Charlotte over Charleston. For us there is so much more to do in Hilton Head and the island is beautiful. Actually I think New Hope in Bucks County PA blows away Charleston. More cool quaint places to hang out in New Hope. Hey different strokes for different folks. Maybe we "built up" Charleston too much in our minds prior to our visits there. But each time we explored Charleston, we were bored. We were very disappointed with Charleston and it wasn't as spectacular as we thought.

Thanks so much for the links....I am searching right now. I guess the closer to downtown the more expensive....I did see a few not in downtown that seem reasonable and have good reviews. One is Embassy Suites in North Charleston and another was HI Express.
I'd love to stay at one of the fancier ones downtown but it just isn't in the budget. Also a few suggested are booked on my dates
Anyone know if the 2 I mentioned are any good or in a safe decent location?
Thanks so much for all your help!

While there, take a short ride over to Isle of Palms for some beaching. We went over Labor Day and loved it. It is a beautiful Isle with gorgeous homes and marina's.
