Move to NY?
My husband has cleared a couple phone interviews with a company in NYC. It's the exact position he's looking for and good pay. Currently he is working a contract position (and I have a full time job). His current position is quite boring and not what he's looking for but the pay is actually more here. Is it worth moving to NY? I grew up there so it's appealing to go back and it is a better career move for my hubby. But the cost of housing is outrageous which makes me feel it's not worth it. Even if the housing market continues downward in NY is it still worth it?
What do you guys think?

Why not just look for a new job here if the current one is so boring? There is no way I'd more to a more expensive market than the one you are already in if I were you, ESPECIALLY when the job here pays more than the one up there! Seems like a no-brainer to me

if you can live with an older home, and much higher property taxes, car insurance etc, which is the norm for the northeast, with the economy the way it is u want to try and make sure he will hold on to that job..NYC is hurting like everywhere else in the country, with alot of people out of work...Just food for thought...On the other hand, things can work out great, and you guys will be happy..one thing to remember you cant compare Charlotte to NYC...it is an unfair comparision....
good luck to you and your family

Well the job here is contract so it can end at any time. Also his field is very specific and technical and not many openings pop up. In about 6 months only one opening came up (which was contract as well). But I think we can keep waiting for other opportunities.
I think you are right about it being a no brainer looking at it when you wrote it, hehe!

berry my previous post I was responding to Loves. Sorry I didn't specify.
I think what is killer in NY is taxes. I don't mind living in an older home, but I guess it just depends on what we want. I think our preference is to stay in Charlotte. And want to make it work here.

Just remember you will need a 6 figure income to live in the NY metro area.

Boss, Yes I know. Even if a person makes 100K, I'm wondering if it's worth it.
