Has anyone been to this exhibit? I will be home in CLT this weekend and thinking about going Saturday. It looks like it is interesting. I want to get something good to eat while in Uptown also. I know there are millions of restaurant threads, so I'm thinking about Mertz (sp?).

Have not been, but it does sound good - A Day in Pompeii: What Nature Destroyed, It Also Preserved... at Discovery Place. | Discovery Place with the Charlotte Observer IMAX Dome Theater and the Charlotte Nature Musuem are the things to do in Uptown Charlotte, North Carolina. Visit the Disc (http://www.discoveryplace.org/pompeii/home/pompeii-home.php - broken link)

I'd suggest riding the light rail down to Southend and getting a bite to eat at Pike's Old Fashioned Soda Shop - they also have great malts - yum.

Thanks, Loves. Pike's is one of my favorites (although for some reason I haven't tried any of their malts). I guess this exhibit is not very popular with CD members? Just seeing if it is worth the $20. It looks pretty neat, might as well check it out.

Truth is, they aren't heavily advertizing the exhibit and I didn't think it was even open yet!

I've been to it twice and loved it. I took a nine-year old to it and we stayed for three hours. I've been to the real Pompeii twice and learned a great deal at Discovery Place about what I'd forgotten or overlooked in the past. A really engaging exhibit.

The Day in Pompeii exhibit is really good. However, the IMAX movie is NOT on Pompeii - it is on Ancient Greece!

I took my MIL and FIL they are in their late 60's, my husband and I in our late 30's and my kids 10,8,8, 5 and I have to say I did not think much of it. A lot of the displays are recreations not actual relics. I did like the live characters they had throughout. I also like the castings of the people who were buried it gave you more of a sense for the time. I may have liked it more if the people I went with did. It was very expensive for all of us too.

Yes, you should go. It is interesting. I have visited Pompei on two occasions. I was afraid that the ash covered bodies were not going to be on display which would have made the trip a waste of money. Fortunately, at the end of the displays they were there. If you have ever visited Pompei area, you will see that many of the body exhibits were not displayed which I understand. Very educational and kids should see it as well if possible. Merts is a pretty good choice. Bring the tums. Pretty greasy.

It has been constantly advertised for months. It has been on billboards and have had full page coverage. It has been open for a month. What are you reading these days? LOL.

Thanks guys. I am going Saturday with some family and friends. It seems like it is interesting, something different to do. Too bad alot of the "relics" are not original.
