Just got an email, Barack Obama will be speaking here on Sunday at 1:00! The event will take place on 4th St. between Davidson and McDowell. Can anyone tell me about the area it's in? I mean, not if it's safe or not but is there parking around there on the street, are there any parking garages? What is on the street there, is it a park?

I've never been to a political event like this, doors open at 11:00 am and it is first come first serve. If anyone has an idea of how crowded it will be/how early to arrive, that would be helpful!

Thanks!!! (and PLEASE don't turn this thread into a political debate )

hahahahaha - well, I'll bite mine too and tell the op that this area is in 2nd Ward and there will be plenty of parking on a Sunday - either on street or in the nearby Government Center building parking garage on Davidson

Does anyone know the area to know if the light rail would be a help. That would be my first thought. Park in Pineville and ride. We won't be there. Sunday is a church day.

Ahh, civility prevails on the forums! Thanks for the quick replies and not getting all political on me!

Yes, it would be helpful to know if the light rail could be used. Otherwise, I'm a UNCC student, so maybe I could just park up there and take a bus down? (btw, I live out in Kannapolis)

Well, if you already live in Pineville, or along the light rail then sure, that would be a nice way to go. I would not, however, drive all the way to Pineville or a light rail station just to avoid driving into uptown if I were coming from another part of town. Driving in uptown in NEVER a problem, but it's a real breeze on a Sunday

I'm sure you could take a bus from the University area to the uptown transportation center and then walk to the event a few blocks. But check the schedule carefully, it is different on weekends than weekdays and doesn't run quite as frequently.

Perhaps Rev Wright will be here to present a Sunday sermon? Anyone have any details on where protestor parking will be?
