An article about grocery costs and gas prices reminded me of this post. I used to travel to several brands of grocery stores to save money and realized I was wasting more gas looking for deals and now just settle on my favorite.

Harris Teeter. I actually will do my major grocery shelf items at BJ's once a month but go to Harris Teeter for weekly stuff. And I am actually noticing I averaging the same in my grocery bill.

How about you? What is your favorite store and why? Are you finding traveling around saves money?

I keep 3 lists going on my fridge. One is for my Harris Teeter shopping, the other for my WalMart shopping and the third for my Sam's Club shopping.

I do HT every other day for fresh items, WalMart once a week for dry goods and drug store type items and Sam's every other week for the bulk items.

I find what really saves me money is sticking strictly to my lists. I don't allow myself to deviate more than one item at a trip, this prevents impulse buying.

Harris Teeter.
The discount stores all seem so dirty, or have long lines.
My time is valuable, and I like the selection HT has even though it costs more.
Where else can I get Chimay Blue (lg) besides Dean & Deluca, and it costs more there.
The HT near my house is open 24/7 which is very convenient- we've been known to shop at midnight!

We used to occasionally go to Costco, but just did not need a 55 gallon drum of laundry detergent, a 10 lb container of peanut butter, or a wagon wheel sized pizza.

I love Trader Joes, but the parking lot is inconvenient and it is usually too crowded for my taste.

I buy sale items at HT, FL, and Bloom based on their circulars and my list. Then I'll get the rest at WalMart or Target. I also like to buy sale items at the drug stores (CVS, Walgreens) when I'm there.

I'm a Lowes Foods (double coupons and great sales...seems cheaper than HT) and Earthfare (Health food and good produce) fan personally

I liked Kroger and really liked Hannaford. So, when Harris Teeter bought out the Kroger stores, I've been going there ever since. I also like Lowes Foods the Fresh Market. Used to love the deli prices at the Super K-Marts, but they don't seem to have that price advantage anymore.

I can't figure out why the Super Target stores aren't pricing themselves a lot better.

I went to Earth Faire and liked it too. I haven't been back and should. It reminds me of Whole Foods I used to go to in Florida.

I go to Aldi 3 times a month & Trader Joe's once a month That leaves about 1 supermarket trip per month for odds & ends.
