Ok so on Poplar tent road towards Harris Rd theres big fields that were pretty overgrown. In the past two days, they have been mowed and look nice and fresh. Today I saw the huge hay rolls and the hay being spread although I've never seen any cows, cattle, etc in the fields. Is the hay being used for something else?? Is it preparation for winter or something??
I think they grow hay, cut the hay then roll the hay. Then they take some of the hay to spread out to grow more hay. As long as their hay growing is more than their hay spreading, they can have some to sell.

What???!!! Are you serious? Lord, lord...save me from city folk.
No, farmers don't spread out the hay to grow more hay. Farmers planted seed to grow hay (a long time ago).
It is harvest season. We have been in a drought. Many of the crops look pitiful this year (which is why it probably looked like an overgrown mess). Farmers will be cutting crops (corn, wheat, straw) this month.
Wheatfields are "combined" (verb - using a large piece of equipmet) for the grain, then the stalks are mowed down for the straw, then the stalks are raked and then baled into either square bales or round bales (the rolled ones). There is a difference between straw and hay. The straw will be sold to landscapers or folks who use it for animal bedding. "Hay" is when the stalks are baled with the seed still attached and it is used to feed livestock.

LOL Marvin. Thanks for clearing that up. I really thought the fields were overgrown weeds and now I know better.
