So how has the United Way Fund Campaign been going?
Anyone wanna give an update? Just wondered how things had proceeded . . . and whose company stayed loyal to the cause . . . and whose company decided not to push the agenda so much this year.

I don't know Ani. I have not heard a single word about a drive at my place of work. We're also one of those places that typically hounds the employees to reach 100% participation.

I used to be a trader at one of the big banks downtown (early 90s) and the hounding was so ridiculous. I love and do donate to various local and international causes, but do not force me. In fact it was so overbearing at XXXXX XXXXX that I refused to donate just because I was so annoyed. I never asked anyone there to support my church or school, so IMHO we were even.

There was a small blurb in the paper Saturday (I think) that said so far donations to United Way were down five million dollars. Looks like they are getting the message and hopefully the needy organizations will get donations directly!

STRIPES - yes, I have thought all was mighty silent on the UW front.
MULLMAN - so agree - I need to be hounded. Like you, I have my "favorites" that I support on my own.
CHARLOTTEBORN: Thanks for the update! I don't subscribe to the CLT OBS, so I missed the blurb. I had looked online and am not seeing anything . . . I hope the organizations are getting donations directly, too. I hope everyone remembers to write those checks out to support worthy causes.

I wonder if the Treasury is going to bail out United Way?

Hey Ani! The UW reps from work walked around the office today giving out leaflets and candy which state the campaign will begin at the latter part of October. I guess they delayed the kickoff hoping this would all blow over by then.

Well, now, that is interesting! This is NOT going to blow over! Plus, we have this economic mess to think about now . . . what a mess.
Thanks for the update, Stripes!

United who???
Ohhh, them. As usaul, my place has mindlessly up'ed their pledge like they do every year...kinda like a macho stubborn sort of thing. I think my department alone is over $40k in "goal." There's been no delay in kicking off either...just a collective ignorant ignoring of the exposing of UW's true colors. I've come to learn that our upper management folks typically throw in the lasf little bit every year in order to meet the goal...to retain bragging rights of meeting for 30 some years. As I understand it, the gap is usually no more than a few hundred. Can't wait to see it this year.
On one hand, I almost feel guilty about hoping for the demise of a "charity," but in a world where so few people get what they deserve (cough:cough:bankbailouts:cough:cough), I can't help but root for the underdog.

We got the announcement about our campaign yesterday. I think I'll just stick to giving money directly.
