Hello. There was a restaurant in Birkdale that had the best Coconut cake I've had since being here. The carrot cake wasn't to bad either. The manager said they get their deserts from Queen City Bakery. I can't seem to reach them (disconnected) and I don't know if they sell to the public anyway.

Does anyone know the scoop, also does anyone have a comparable really good bakery (no supermarket suggestions - lol). I'd like to pick up a birthday cake if possible.

Thanks!

Jimmy's Sweets in Matthews is really good. The Bread Basket on Monroe Rd is another one that I would recommend. They are a hidden gem but very awesome.

Queen City is doing mostly wholesale now. Solera is also going the wholesale route shortly. Retail bakery business round here isn't very profitable, I'm afraid. Too much comp from HT, Lowes and Costco/Sams/Wallyworld. Which is all pretty much dreck.

I agree, I *wish* Queen City sold to the public- the coconut cake is unreal...
