Cost of eye exam in Charlotte? Is Vision Insurance worth it?
Im trying to decide if Vision coverage is worth it for the wife and I at $18 per month. Does anyone know about how much an eye exam would cost without insurance?
Thank you!

It depends so much on what you need. I have an astigmatism, so my contacts cost quite about twice that. Also, are they long wear, daily wear, made for allergy sufferers, bifocal, etc...? Really variable.
The vision exam doesn't cost a lot -- it's usually the frames and the lenses and the contacts that make up all the cost. Insurance will benefit you if you use it. For example, my husband and I are both myopic as all get out. We need and use our vision insurance and get the most out of it. If your eyes are perfect, it may not be worth it to you.

I had my yearly eye exam today. The comprehensive exam was 107.76. Refraction was 15.00. Visual field, extended (I am on a high risk med) was 78.43. Digital photo's 75.00. All for a grand total of $276.19 without glasses. I guess it depends on your needs. I doubt I could afford to go without.

With VSP our exams are $15 each. They give you up to $150/person toward cost of frames and lenses. If you have kids, the same applies to them. fOR us, it's an awesome deal!

Agreed, VSP is the way to go - you can easily spend $350 a year on the exam and contacts otherwise.
