What about Indian Trail?
That's the other town we're considering.

Specifically, what information are you seeking? That would help people with their responses.

How long is the commute to Charlotte?
How are the schools?
What is there to do?
Is it family friendly?
What are the parks like?

I also would like to know about Indian Trail. It seems like the house prices are lower in that area compared to some other areas in Union County that we looked at. I know some of the developments go to Porter Ridge Schools. It looks like the test scores for Porter Ridge are not that great compared to a school like Weddington.

I live in Indian Trail and Porter Ridge schools are great. They are just a new school and scores are not up to par yet but they are working on them. My two boys are in 4th and 1st grades and they love it. Your commute would actually depend on which part of Charlotte you are going to. On average it would take about 40 min to get uptown if leaving home around 7am. But that is taking some of the backroads and avoiding some of 74. The good part is 74 is a straight shot from Indian Trail to uptown. And Indian Trail is so close to everything that it does not take long to go anywhere. It takes about 20 min to get to Concord Mills and 20min to get to Pineville. Both have great shopping malls and restaurants. Of course Monroe, which is 5 min has a mall also and LOTS of restaurants. There is also a skating rink right here in Indian Trail on 74 and a new ice skating rink. As far as family oriented, Indian Trail is definately the place to live. Lots of family events and activities. I recommend Indian Trail

Oh and one more thing about Porter Ridge to Weddington, you need to check out the dress codes and rules. They vary differently, its like night and day. If you do not mind a "catholic school" type environment for your kids then you will be okay with Weddington. Otherwise Porter Ridge has no uniforms and no strict rules. Of course that may also influence the difference is scores. But the uniform thing turned us off from buying in Wesley Chapel/Weddington area.

I'm glad to hear positive feeback about the Porter Ridge Schools. Does anyone know of new neighborhoods in the Porter Ridge school districtl that have amenities like pool, clubhouse, playground, etc? I looked at Annadale so far, but I am making another trip up in a few weeks and would like to check out some more neighborhoods. Thanks!

This is where I get stumped, per the NC State Report Card, PR schools actually rank below or just on par with other schools that I have read very unfavorable talk about on this site. So, what is it about PR schools that are so special? What is the attraction? From elementary to the high school, they are rated a School of Progress (at least 60% of students are at grade level), which is fully three rankings below the highest rating a school can receive. What am I not understanding? Am I misreading the score reports?
Thanks!
