I will drive a little further into Matthews to have better food at a better price.

Still haven't been there yet but my neighbor brought home a menu for us to check out. I have to agree that I thought the prices were a little high for the tyoe of place that it is. Hopefuly I will be able to try it out this weekend and judge for myself.
Also, how much did you pay for a beer? I see wine is 5.50 but was curious about tap beer/size/price.

We went to the Bears Lair.. It was not good.. The food was like precooked microwave frozen food, music wouldn't play unless some one fed money into the jukebox.. and beers were small and super expensive.. I think the glass size was 10 oz and they were $3.25.. for a miller light.. wow huh.. and baked french fries.. go figure.. place was cold and stark with the windows wide open to the parking lot... felt uncomfortable.. we met the owner.. and said we were excited about it being so close to home.. and that we would patronize a lot.. but we wished the beers at least were bigger.. she was VERY RUDE AND NASTY.. and said, "I've run many places in florida and I know what I'm doing..I'm not listening to YOU!"We vowed never to go back.. but was talked into trying it one more time by family..So, we went back, and the beers did grow.. to the 16 oz size.. was glad to see that.. still $3.25 for domestic tap..but at least they're bigger.. and watch your beer.. I watched the bartender take away quarter filled bottles and replace them when the customer wasnt looking! Like they don't make enough off the beer already! And the pool tables, what a waste of space. No one was even over there. If you go, leave your pocket book at home and eat before arriving there! One more thing. I never experienced this before..All the employees were texting on their cell phones. The hostest- looked up and welcomed us, then continued texting. We stood there for a minute. Then sat our selves. She apoligized and brought us our menus. Then, our waitress text in the middle of taking our order.Never experienced that before.wow huh?

I think the wine prices are high, considering it was Barefoot brand and not Beringer. Barefoot is $3/bottle and can see paying $5.50 glass. Hubby likes the fries but he says better for the figure, lol. I love their crab bisque. Son loves their Barbalo (bbq and buffalo mixed) wings and hubby likes the burgers. I do agree prices are high which is why we only get small amounts and then go home for dessert. I would have to say if there was another game in town that had beer and wine we would definately try it.

The beers were cheaper when they were smaller so either you were overcharged or just don't remember. I do agree with you about the owner, but my experience was that the service by her employees was great. I thought everyone was friendly, very attentive, and the food isn't bad even though it is pricey. Plus, every time I've been there the pool tables are being used.

In my opinion, the beer and food is too over priced. Everything is baked, no matter what it is. French fries, baked, wings, baked. All of your food is prepared in the same toaster oven!!!! The first time I was there I had to pay almost $4 for a 10 ounce New Castle. 10 ounces! Are you kidding me? Since then they have changed to what may be a pint glass. Don't get me wrong, the place has potential to be a good establishment. One of the many faults I find with Bear's Lair is that it does not have personality. You have a decent size bar, four really nice pool tables (which I find cost too much), tv's in view no mater where you are in the place and a stage for a band that I have yet to see. But, from the multiple experiences I have had there I would NOT recommend to anyone to waste their time even stepping foot in the place. I have witnessed poor management and disrespect towards both customers and staff.

I just got a spam text message that said "have you ever been to bears lair?" I will never go to this place because of this. (not to mention all the things I read on here)

I'm not sure what's going to happen w/that whole strip mall thing over there. The owner of Sun Valley Cafe is looking to sell the establishment for 750K from what I heard, and the rents are astronomical (on par w/S charlotte)....
Not sure who's going to make it in this economy over there..(except for Mickey D's)

Food's not good, it is overpriced and the owner is rude. Thank God that woman didn't get elected Mayor! It will be gone faster than the bagel place. I agree with Jack...I'm not sure anything is going to last there. SV Cafe is overpriced and not all that great...and they think somebody will pay $750K for that? Even if the rent was cheap I wouldn't give them half that. BTW: What ever happened to Showmars? They had that sign up forever then it was gone. I think Showmars in that SV Cafe spot would do great.

A taco-ria is opening up in the old Marc's Bagels spot.
I haven't been to Bear's yet, but I'm not getting a great feeling with what I'm reading. I agree with Jack, that strip is probably going to fizzle shortly, if the economy continues and less people are spending.
