Mine wants to move too, it definitely makes the transition more difficult but the YMCA has really helped us with their teen activities. I suggest you check the Y out if you haven't done so yet.

Finding a neighborhood w/ couples your age and kids in the same age range is a challenge these days. There are some ways to try to check that out ahead of time, but all are time consuming and very often, there just isn't that luxury of time.

The Y is a good suggestion as are churches/synagogues w/ programs for different age groups . . . and then as kids get involved more in their new schools, they will just naturally start meeting other kids . . .

Sorry did not read the entire thread. I would have told dad to go ahead and buy those 10 acres on that mosquito ridden place called Lake Norman back in the early 80's for $1K per acre!!

Well, we only moved 2 months ago, so far not a lot of regret. We moved from Chicago, had never been to NC before, spend 3 days here and found a 50 year old mill house in Kannapolis. I guess we are not typical, most people spend a LOT more time looking and it seems most people here are looking for new homes.

I love that we got an old house at a cheap price so we can fix it up the way we want to. We have drywalled walls, this week we tiled the fireplace and built a mantle, next week is the kitchen... it's a lot of work, but it has been a joy every step of the way. We have big trees in the yard, nice neighbors, nice area.

The only thing I wish we had was a more walkable area (although there is a fruit/veggie/plant stand nearby which is nice). I haven't been to Salisbury yet, but I heard it has a town area and wish we had looked into it, but at the time I thought the commute to UNCC would be to long. Also, I wish we had talked them down on the home price a bit more, since we found out after moving in that the fireplace needs about 2K of work to be safe.
