Read three good stories about Charlotte over the last few days and awfully proud of some of the people in the city that seem to have their priorities in the right place.

The first from USA Today, showed that Charlotte was ranked #9 out of major US cities when it comes to volunteering. The survey showed that approximately 1/3 (34.3%) of people that live in and around Charlotte Volunteer in some capacity during the year.

The other two were tragic articles from this morning's Observer, but still had their silver linings.

- The first had to deal with a 12 yr old girl that was being assaulted/raped. Maintenance men nearby heard the calls of distress and not only stopped the (fill in appropriate adjectives words) "man" but also chased him down and turned him over to police. Bravo!

- The second had to do with a volunteer firefigher who responded to an overturned SUV with mother and children entrapped. Risking his own life to save others is truly the work of a hero. My thoughts do go out to the family, the mother passed at the hospital and the children are still in critical condition, but there's still hope.
