I'm shocked that so many of you think it's out of the ordinary to knock and introduce yourself to the neighbors. I live in Pasadena, Ca in a very lovely area. Before I even closed escrow on the house 10 years ago, my hubby and I were working on the place and several neighbors paid us a visit. Wanted to know who we are, what improvments we were making, etc... Some of these folks have become my dearest friends. It was the same in the neighborhood previously, where the neighbors would frequently meet at one house or another for evening cocktails and snacks in time to watch the sunset. I don't know if being a good neighbor is just a southern thing, I think it's something you are or are not wherever you are from.

We live in Elizabeth, they took mostly electronics, and a few other things. About $6,000 total. According to the police, they sold our things for $250.... amazing huh? I would have paid them $300 not to break in. The window they damaged cost me $400.
Just glad they didnt bother my wife.

No, its a northern thing for sure. I can even remember when i was a kid and some neighbors moved in from up north. Of course all the neighbors go meet them. They were shocked....but they eventually got it

Hey, we just moved from Pasadena! We lived in the Historic Highlands area. We lived there for over 16 years. Well, 11 married and 5 single before that.

You know, you guys are talking about knocking on people's doors. I have lived here 2 years and noone has ever come to my door expecting to be invited in. For one thing, most people I meet aren't actually FROM here, so I think Charlotte is less "South" than it used to be.

Now, when we see our neighbors out doing yard work or playing with their new puppies, we stop and visit in the yard, but I wouldn't feel comfortable knocking on a door and expecting just a casual visit.

Did this break-in make the 6 O'clock news? Seems like I saw this one on TV.....

Not exactly how one wants their 15 minutes of fame.

I live in a transitional neighborhood and am out of town a lot. I am so paranoid about a break-in. The only thing Im worried about is my computer and the 1000's of irreplaceable pics. Someday I will get around to protecting them.

Care to share which neighborhood you are in? I think it helps people here to know which neighborhoods are "transitional".

I would love to go knock on our neighbors doors', but we only have two and they are on the other end of our subdivision, lol...

we're a young couple as well (29/27) with a 2-year old daughter in daycare most of the week.

Seems like most of the people on here are in Southern Charlotte, we're on the west end of Lake Norman..

Hi, my husband and I are moving to NC from Florida in the summer. Both my brother and his wife are moving next month. We are around the same age as you guys. I am also worried about leaving all my friends behind. It will be nice to keep in touch. Charlie 22
