Charlotte - Any places to avoid when searching for a home?
Hi All -
I'm considering relocating from MA to Charlotte in the next 6 months or so. I have signed up with Ziprealty to look at homes in the Charlotte area, but I wanted to get the "411" from residents, whether native or transplants, on which areas to avoid.
I am a mother of 2 and wife of 1 and I am looking for a newer home, doesn't have to be huge, but I want a nice area to raise my children.
Thanks for all your help!

Here is a link to the the best site you can find when searching for safe areas to live.
Community Crime Information System
You can do a search on an address and find out exactly what crimes have been reported in that area. I advise taking the tutorial on the page to get all the features from it.

Price and job location will depend on a ton.

Job location matters as long as you don't ever plan on changing jobs or your company moving to a new office.

We need a bit more info to be able to truly help you. How much can you afford? Which part of town do you think you'll be working in? What ages are your kids?

Well if your working in Ballatyne currently you do not want to look for a house in Mooresville.
Obviously we know that things change during life....

Ok I'm looking to purchase a home that will be under $140k. My kids are 5 and 9 and I have NO CLUE where I'll be working, as I haven't even started applying just yet.
I know it's so random but I was hoping that someone could tell me to definitely avoid "X" area.
I would tell someone if they're considering moving to Boston that they should be *leery* of Roxbury, Mattapan, etc. - high crime, etc.....
Thanks!

My advice would be to first find a job. Start applying from now. Jobs are hard to find, even in Charlotte. Regarding the house, I would avoid the East side of town. Good luck.

In general, you would not want to search in west Charlotte. HOWEVER, west OF Charlotte there are great areas with homes in your price range in the towns of Mt. Holly or Gastonia. East OF Charlotte you will want to check out the town of Mint Hill. Additionally, you will find things in your price range north OF Charlotte in the town of Huntersville. You will not find much in your price range in south Charlotte. Hope this helps

I'm sure you can find something in the University area for that $$.
