Weddington Elem school tours
Weddington elementary school does not allow parents to take a tour of the school. Is this same policy for all union county schools.

WOW! It was not the policy of the Union County schools we visited (August and September 2006) before relocating to Union County. That would be very discouraging to me!

Wow is right! When I went to see my sons school(Antioch elem.) one of the parent volunteers was in the office and she gave us a tour of the whole school. Some schools have certain days when they take parents around, or you can make an appointment with the guidance counselor to give the tour. I never heard of NOT being able to tour the school!

This is becasue they have special needs kids and self containted classrooms there and they have to be concerned wtih confidentiality of those kids. Don't worry - its a very nice school - my son goes there. Also, like pp said, you can make an appt and tour it if you are serious about attending it.

Don't most public schools have students with special needs and self-contained classrooms? Those were the very classrooms I sought to visit during our trip.
We've moved around quite a bit and I've always visited the schools before settling into the area. We've never been barred.
cltnewcomer, I would think that an appointment could be set. Speak to the principal.

I have to agree, the schools here have special needs classes/handicap and other type classes and they will always allow u to go and visit....I have to say If I cant visit a school from an outsider then I dont think I want my kid to go there...Ive gone to schools elsewhere and saw 1st hand if they are good and not good so even though Weddington is supposed to be excellent, I dont like to just take the word of other people as my child may have different needs then the next..JMO....

I honestly think that the original poster just needs to find the right person to make the arrangements with. Having students with special needs is not enough justification to keep prospective parents out of the building.

My husband contacted the Principal at Weddington Elementary and were told that "No, we do not do that do to the fact we have so many people looking or shopping for schools."
Has anyone received a tour of the school recently? I am confused and surprised as well.
