Is anyone surprised? I mean really...?
Most of the women who went to those clothing stores are now shopping at Walmart and Target...they can't afford those prices anymore.
Look at McDonalds...food is cheap, dollar menu....business is up.
I was at the grand opening for the Lowes on 74 in Indian Trail over the weekend. Saturday around 11am the store was DEAD. People are not spending as much overall like they used too.....
I suspect like most this will get worse......

I'm not really surprised at the store closings in Huntersville. There are entirely too many restaurants and stores between exits 19 and 28. Then they are pretty much all there again at 36. The population isn't big enough to support that many restaurants and stores. There's 3 supermarkets at exit 23 and 2 at exit 25.
Thank God they didn't start building that huge shopping area in Cornelius.
I wish they would bulldoze the abandoned shopping areas and make parks out of them.

I think a bit of that's Darwinian. You got places like Starbucks that was just dropping them anywhere there was space to do so. You had other places dropping stores as close to their competition as they could (Home Depot's right next to a Lowes, a Circuit City right next to a Best Buy). I think it just became excessive in a lot of cases. Almost like trying to throw as many grenades at your enemy as possible, and then wind up blowing yourself up in the process.
The economy isn't helping matters for those places, that's for sure.
