Jimmy B got out when the "gettin' was good" I read that Ch. in Paradise was actually a Buffett-licensed thing that OSI (owner of Outback restaurants) is a major part of.
According to Wiki: Cheeseburger in Paradise is a casual dining restaurant chain in the United States. The first restaurant was opened on August 22, 2002 in Indianapolis, Indiana; as of 2006[update], the restaurant has 38 locations in 17 states. It is a theme restaurant named for the song "Cheeseburger in Paradise" by American pop music singer Jimmy Buffett. The chain was a partnership of Buffett's company, the Palm Beach, Florida-based Margaritaville Holdings LLC, and OSI Restaurant Partners, with Buffett licensing the name and Outback operating the franchising of restaurants. Margaritaville Holdings has sold its part of the company.
Buffett's still owns restaurants that have the Margaritaville name.

My DW informed I was going to pick up dinner tonight from a place just around the bend from Ch in Paradise, so I drove past to check it out.
Holy Cow! They've boarded the place up and stripped every sign and identifying mark off the building (and the take out parking spot signs!). You would never be able to tell what was there if you didn't already know.

My mother lives in Indian Land/Fort Mill area, near the Charlotte border, close to Pineville, Ballantyne, etc. I think part of the problem is just pure over-saturation. My gosh, for a while there, there was a new strip mall sprouting up around the corner from her every time I went out there for a visit! Just how many Nail Salons or Coffee Shops can one area handle? We went to one new restaurant out there that charged $10.00 for a mediocre hamburger and $5.00 for a milkshake, forget the name, but never again. Probably too many grocery chains too. Once the new Super Walmart goes up, half of those will probably close. I just don't think the yuppie, shop-a-holic lifestyle is ever going to be the thing it used to be. A lot of people have "woken up", and are getting back to basic reality, and common sense spending. Unfortunately, this isn't good for the retail and restaurant industries. That's why I'm working on getting out of my retail "career". I can see the writing on the wall.

Buffett has restaurants sprinkled throughout the Caribbean and Mexico, as well. I wonder if they will stay intact - they always seem to be doing a HUGE business when we are there.

Ani, I'm sure the Margaritaville brand restaurants will do fine. There are lots of people willing to pay big bucks for the average fare in those locations just to be part of the Buffett theme in those places.

I live very near that CB in P restaurant and only found out today it had closed. They used to play the song every hour on the hour. I also read that Jackson Java closed their Huntersville store. Another favorite pizza place of ours over in Denver also closed. (forget the name)

I forgot about another one recently, Murphy's Pub on Woodlawn. Funny thing is about two months ago I was at McKoy's (where I learned that this was an original location for Murphy's. McKoy's seemed to be thriving.)
I was told the moved to Woodlawn because they thought it was a better location.
YIKES!
