Flip Flop Shop in Blakeney is closed. Not sure how long they have been gone.

Seriously, that was such a strange store. I hate to see any business owner not make a go of it but who in Charlotte is thinking flip flops in January? It always reminded me of that old SNL skit of "The Scotch Tape Store".

There's a similar store in Carolina Place Mall.

Don't ask me, I go back to when they were called "Zoris" and (of all things) "Thongs".

Old Navy on JM Keynes Blvd in University area??
Drove past there yesterday and the windows were covered. Perhaps a re-model, but I think the sign had been taken down, too. The location is still listed on their company website, but no-one answered the phone when I called.

They're leaving University Place, along with Ulta, to move to a new shopping center in the Belgate development, next to IKEA.

Hobby Lobby and Marshalls are leaving the Commons at Chancellor Park (the Home Depot shopping center) to relocate to Belgate as well, and PetSmart is leaving its space by Target to move to Belgate. The new shopping center will also include World Market, which used to be by PetSmart and Target. Oh, and Shoe Carnival will be there too -- the only new tenant for the area.

Grand openings for at least World Market and PetSmart are next weekend.

The former La Strada in Wesley Chapel is going to be another Italian restaurant. I think its called Mia Villa. Its still being put together though.

Thanks for the update - I was out of the loop on that development
I'm thrilled to get a World Market back in the area again, but that's going to leave a lot of vacant buildings around the UNCC campus. With online shopping on the increase it's more and more difficult to find replacement tenants.

Personally, I wish the University area had an area that had a village-like feel, like many other university towns have. Maybe develop where the old Walmart & Best Buy were located on JM Keynes.

The Food Lion that's located on the corner of Prosperity Church Rd & Mallard Creek Rd - the 'Store closing' sign is up and they've marked everything 25%-off (although removed all other discounts). This closure will be particularly tough on the residents of the nearby senior living center - it'll be no easy task crossing Mallard Creek Rd (or affording HT's prices if they make it).
