I didnt say that, be specific of Quizno or Borders location.
Otherwise this thread becomes derail and anyone can discuss whatever business that is even not in this area.
Quizno's in Gateway Village closed a while back. I liked the place because they have a pepper bar!

Hmm. I thought I posted the link to this. I guess I messed up. If you are still interested in Quiznos link then go to The Consumerist site which is the Consumer Reports online blog. I posted this because there are still a number of these places open in Charlotte area and people may be holding coupons and gift cards to get some food.
If Yesteryear's is closing due to the new (ridiculously expensive and unnecessary) road, then I would assume that the whole plaza is going away.
I agree that it is expensive, but not unnecessary IMO. I live in that area and the traffic caused by the stoplights is maddening. And its not safe turning off of Independence when cars are going 60mph behind you.
as for the businesses in that area I understand there will be several more to fall. That whole plaza will go. Carolina Kebap is already closed, and Yesteryears is about to be. Im sure the Brazilian/Namaste will be next. I think the strip where Las Marigatas is located will stay. The tile/flooring store, and Speaker Doctor will soon go as well. Rooms-To-Go is to stay,no pun intended. Tire Kingdom has closed there as well as Steak and Hoagie RIP.
I had previously speculated that RTG will closed the Independence location once their expansion at Carolina Place is done. I don't think that location can survive there on its own (with no other furniture stores in the area).
On a related note, it looks like Charlotte Auto Collection, who renovated and opened in the old Service Merchandise/Office Depot/Barnes & Noble strip is having a "Moving Sale". The sign doesn't yet say where they're moving.

I've lived on that side of town off and on since 1986, including the last 17 years. No, the traffic isn't fun for a couple hours a day, but it's not an interstate. It's a (sort of) business route, with a major thoroughfare intersecting it. Further restricting access to the remaining businesses isn't a step in the right direction. They're not going to survive long enough to see the fruits, if any, of the project, IMO.

the businesses are going or already gone to make room for the road, so no they won't be around to reap any"fruits". The idea is to keep traffic flowing out to Matthews. There will still be access, especially when the Wal-Mart opens up. I am speaking more about the sharon amity intersection rather than Independence as a whole. That was a problem the city created years ago. I think that removing some of the eye-sore businesses will clean that area up. I'm sure Mo' Money Taxes, and the massage parlor can find available retail space nearby. The Carnita Guanato in the old Knife and Fork has moved to albemarle road in a space once occupied by Red,White, and Blue( the food is awesome by the way).

Haha, funny that when I was thinking of that plaza closing I said to myself "Oh my god, what will people do without Mo' Money Taxes!".
Just noticed on the way home on 74 that American Furniture Liquidators is having a going out of business sale.
