I talked to a friend today who is a waitperson at a popular steakhouse on South Blvd (very very near La Paz ) They said that business has been off, but even worse were the tips. 5-10% has become the norm where 15-20%+ used to be the norm. I feel for the people working in the service industry taking such a huge hit: less hours AND less in tips. Sad.
I agree. When my wife & I go out for dinner we factor in the 20% tip for great service. But nowdays we go to the same places pretty frequently. The servers know what we like to drink, what we generally order for appetizers & entrees, they refill our drinks & they make us feel at home.
I think that with some diners they feel that they have enough budgeted for dinner but they feel that they can stiff the staff. After all who knows when they'll be back again. Odds are that they won't be remembered.
It will interesting to see how the new local Ikea does in this economy.
Personally I think they will do fine.
They offer a great quality/price ratio and might be opening at a great time in our market.
I heard that Wolf Camera was going under too, can anyone confirm that?
