Default Fall colors, where to go?

Hi All,
What are the best places and time to visit fall colors?

Where can we go if we decide this coming 17th weekend?

What about the 25th weekend?

KK.

Blue Ridge Parkway is an excellent drive.

We just took a drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway on Sunday. There was a good portion of it closed north of Asheville. The southern route is open still. We went down the Parkway and then got off on 276 towards Brevard. 276 is a really pretty drive. The leaves should be hitting there peak within a week or two, they were changing up close but the long range views were still pretty green. Here are some pictures from our trip. The waterfall is Looking Glass Falls on 276. A beautiful place to take pictures. Have a great trip!

Hubby and I are off to the Smoky Mountains for some hiking soon. We've been there several times in the fall and the colors are beautiful.

We always go later in the year and it seems LATE October-EARLY November are the best times to go to see the foliage change colors.

I hear the Catskills are awesome, too.

We're heading to Ashville this weekend. We went in June and had a nice time at the Biltmore and visiting downtown, but didn't really do anything outdoorsey. Any suggestions for fun outdoor activities? We have 2 kids ages 10 & 12 who can hike about 2 or 3 miles.
I read in Sunny's link that we may have to go higher to see the more vibrant colors. What's up there?
TIA

Hi Dori I would suggest getting on the Parkway at hwy 70 in Asheville and heading north. Almost immediately you will encounter the brand new, beautiful Destination Center. Take the time to watch the approximate 15 minute movie in the theater - it is so well done - about the history of the Parkway. From there you should continue north to Craggy Gardens. There are some great colors up there right now and some trails you could hike with your kids that are not difficult. There is a great picnic area there at the parking area, so consider bringing some lunch or snacks too
