i agree with lemons there is a stereotype down here from up north to down here. There is certainly no stealing of jobs from the northerners and that is crazy talk for those who believe that. I have had people say things to me since I have been here like I have been out of work for 1.5 years and i could have had a job if it wasnt for you! Honestly that is crap and unfair judgment. I am immediately targeted because I have a strong accent and it is frustrating to say the least. Whether they are native to CLT or not we are all americans right??

All humans dealing with the same collective issues.
One thing you will find is there are lots of closed minded persons on this planet who wish to remain in their comfort zones.
Like I said before , I recieve emails regarding openings - if anyone is interested let me know.

So true. NO MATTER WHERE YOU LIVE, you are going to find people who say inappropriate things. Don't dwell on other people's comments and opinions and they won't bother you.

Like SB295 says, bad economic times sometimes make people desperate and do/say things they normally wouldn't do.
The "stealing" jobs thing is hogwash. Natives (& transplants) benefited from all the good years of "growth". Now as the chit hits the fan you get alot of people saying stupid things.

Dido to that CouponJack. The stealing of jobs viewpoint here is hogwash. Being a CLT native I have seen all the transplants moving here over the years for jobs. I have no problem with this. You can't fault anyone for wanting to better their situation. Right? I myself am not worried about anyone coming here and "stealing" a job away from me. In fact.... I welcome the competition if any transplants think that they can beat me out.

You need to dissasociate yourself from idiots. I'm sure that someone didn't just walk up to you and say this. It was likely an angry rebuttle. But, I agree that northerners taking jobs is not a problem. And, there are no visas or passports required to live in N.C. if from another state, so we are all on equal grounds. To say you were targeted for something because of your "strong" accent sounds pretty unlikely. What kind of accent would precipitate the negativity you encountered? Remember that 30 percent of Charlotte are actually from N.C. My dad was Russian and lived in Charlotte since he was 30. He had no problems with his accent even during hard economic times.

Here's the thing . . . HR folks and managers themselves are gonna hire the person BEST TRAINED FOR THE JOB. If that person is recruited from out of state, then that is b/c no one locally was qualified for the job (or at least - they didn't apply for it). So that is ridiculous for people to say that someone came from out of state and "stole a job" from someone already here.
Reality check: if you didn't get the job, the other guy landed it because someone simply liked him/her more - or the person had qualifications/expertise wh/ were more appropriate.
I had no idea folks were actually hearing that type of "you stole my job" BS from natives. I have not heard anyone express that to me directly - that they felt if there were less folks from elsewhere applying for jobs, maybe they would have landed the position. Recruiters would be out of business if Charlotte had all the manpower requirements for every possible nuance of every job.
I do think that hard times have made us all uptight about our own personal situations as well as our friends' and neighbors' situations. Just too bad that it appears sometimes the angst comes out in unfair ways to folks who have done nothing to earn the harsh words.
